The bar to entry has been lowered significantly for modern era pitchers.

Be hard pressed to keep Schilling or Mussina out now.

Morris gets stash points, and remarkable big game points. On that criteria Schilling is a possibility, but Mussina is, true to form, just not quite.

Morris: 254-185, 105 ERA+, 44.7 rWAR

Mussina: 270-154, 123 ERA+, 83.0 rWAR

It is not close.     Any HOF that Morris is in and Mussina is not in, isn’t worth paying attention to IMO.   But it took 23 years after his career ended for Morris to get in, so Mussina may need to wait a while.

I believe if Morris doesn't have Game 7 of the 91 WS on his resume, he doesn't get in.

Almost without a doubt, though he certainly was a very good starting pitcher who had a long career.

Sure, I'd put him in the hall of pretty good in a heartbeat.  He can have the spot next to Boddicker.

He really belongs with Mickey Lolich, who also had a memorable World Series and was a good pitcher for a long time.

Looking at the stats, I'd put Whitaker in before either Trammell or Morris.

I'm happy they both got in.  Trammell suffered in comparison to other SS of the time and the stats aren't great but he was a hell of a ballplayer.  I can live with it.

I get Morris' stats aren't fabulous but some of his ERA numbers had to be impacted by 175 complete games.  When 3 of those CGs are in the World Series and the last is a 10 inning shutout to win the title, you get some credit beyond the stats.

Schilling is a no-brainer IMO.

I'm a big hall guy - I like Baseball Think Factory's Hall of Merit, which quantifies number of inductees by number of games played in baseball.  There are currently 260 "plaques".  (they need to update a few pages though)

In this format, Alan Trammell was elected first ballot, and Morris is not in.

Me -- Morris is not in my HOF but I am not going to call his election a big mistake like say George "High Pockets" Kelly.  Trammell is well deserving.  I'm happy to see that Ted Simmons got so close.

More than anything, I'm happy to see a Veteran's Committee actually vote someone in!  The old-tyme pre WWII field is pretty much picked clean, but there are many guys we'll say in the Free Agent Era that have a good case.  Trammell's long time double play partner Lou Whitaker is one of them.
