Negativity Thread (re Machado)

Though we have known it for a while, losing Machado -- and presumably not acquiring a king's ransom in return -- is really going to stink.  I'd like to open a forum for negativity regarding this tragedy and the FO's complete abortion of reason and foresight.

I just want to whine with like-minded people, not deal with positivity police, and release coherent frustration.  Negative humor can also be really funny.   Let this serve as a sanctuary for the pissed off, where we are still polite and abide by all rules.

And please do not confuse negativity with fighting or acting like a rear-end to other posters.  More to come, I just wanted to set this up.

The part of this that is most negative to me is the statement that they haven’t talked extension for years.

I think it would be fair to reserve judgement on the return until a deal is announced.

After reading your post , I wonder out loud if the Os are using the trade and rumors as a negotiating tool with Mannys agents who are also at the meetings. Not likely imo ...but you never know.

I think it's not a coincidence that John Angelos is at the meetings

I guess I can’t blame them for thinking the starting pitcher could overachieve again last year, but to me... when you’ve got a closer in his arbitration years who has an all-time year, you’ve gotta consider trading him.

Its the world in which the Orioles have to live, unfortunately. Take your stabs when you think you may have an outside shot because the rest of the division is financially capable of rebuilding in 18 months. The Orioles are not.

There was never a chance Machado was going to re-sign here after 2015.

It really makes me sick watching the winter meetings. They are drooling over Machado to the Yankees. Hell Pena just had Machado and Schoop to the Yankees. This isn' good for baseball.

I agree ....

and this is plain unexcusable...

The Orioles haven’t made any recent attempts to negotiate an extension with Machado’s agent, Dan Lozano of MVP Sports Group.

“I’ve talked to Machado’s agent periodically. We have not explored a long-term agreement with Manny since we tried a couple of years ago,” Duquette said.

The asking price would be mammoth ....10-12 top prospects that include

Torres, Adams, Sheffield, Florial,  Abreu, Sauer, Solak, Schmidt, Widener, Cave, sands, and Carroll

Given last year's outcome and the current state of the rotation, I don't see any leverage coming from a trade threat.  If I were Manny, I might shrug my shoulders and welcome greener pastures a year earlier than expected.

Especially if he wears Pinstripes.

I'll be thrilled if the team that trades for him is NYY. O's actually started discussion with them because they're loaded in the minors.
