Round 2
16. Orioles: RHP Pedro Araujo (Cubs)
17. Marlins: RHP Brett Graves (A's)

Round 3
18. Orioles: RHP Jose Mesa (Yankees)

So we have three guys that we have to keep in addition to Santander or send back

Well, sure, ok.

There's no real harm in sending them back if you don't have room.  Therein lies the problem - sometimes the team has hung on to their picks too long.  But I can't imagine all three make it, on top of Santander AND their first Rule 5 pick Nestor Cortes.

Power relief arm 87 Ks in 64 innings and only 18 walks. Looks like he could take Brach or Brittons spot in the pen

Number look good. Wonder about velo?

Araujo throws a fastball with good arm side run in the low 90s’ and gets plenty of swing-and-miss with a plus breaking ball that sits in the low 80s. He also has a change-up in his repertoire but didn’t show it much at the end of the year. He gave up 66.7 percent fly balls but half of those went to the opposite field for outs. Despite not possessing overpowering stuff, Araujo gets a lot of weak contact which may have more to do with a .257 BABIP than luck. Right-handers only hit .151 against him and lefties didn’t do much better at .220.

I doubt the Yankees ability to take an arm back this season.

Jose Mesa.  Drafted today in the 2nd round.

Saw the thread, thought it was just a suggestion by Rick...whoops.  Wow, that is interesting.   At least 2 of the 4 will have to go, right?

It depend who we move from the pen ...say the he for 5th. And possibly to for the pen. If you deal Brach and Britton you conceivably could keep them.

Id ge surprised if one wasn't sent back

    • 38.  We have 23 players in AAA, so presumably could reserve 15 more players from lower levels.  That would leave about 11 or so unprotected.
    • How many can you protect on the reserve list?
    • Nunez is the only one I really care about, and that was only after reading Tony's glowing writeup.
    • Welp I guess they didn’t protect Burch after all.
    • Nor should anyone. Holliday still has talent and his 2024 hopefully won't be a harbinger of things to come. He's going to end up a good major league player, the question for me is, will he become an impact player?  My answer to that is. Maybe? It's not out of the realm of possibility but as I've said in other posts, he's got things to improve upon, several of which (arm strength, and physicality limits due to his size) are not something he can do much about. Saying that, before people (not you per se) poo-poo his power potential, I provide this as proof that the power potential is there. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=5c6b3b25-fb5c-45a3-9ad1-0eb167a4c8b8  https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=7cc4a5fb-6f8b-4ae4-abf4-87963225ec05 The flashes are what gives me hope he can still be an impact player at the major league level. We all know he's a hard worker too, so I imagine he'll get the most out of his ability. We all need to remember that players need to fail before they will make meaningful changes even if professional coaches are telling him he has to change. If he has "Ohtani swing" working in spring training then perhaps the change is for real ad he's ready to get it going at the major league level in 2025.

    • What is even funnier is I did not even take more than the recommended dosage.  One pill of each.  I think it was a weird reaction to the Ambien.  Lots of stories about people sleep walking and sleep eating on it.  I entered a different dimension and was in an Adam Jones Kangaroo Court dimension.   I basically have not had Ambien since.  Maybe once or twice in twelve years.  Who knows what I might do on it?
