Cole/McCutchen - What would it take and would you be interested?

Reports are out that the Pirates are shopping Gerrit Cole but that they also want to include McCutchen in a deal.  If the O’s can’t trade Manny right now, I personally would love to try and work something out with the Pirates to make this happen.  Cole is only $3.75 million and under control for 2 more years.  Cutch is due $14.5 million and is a FA after this season.  Again...IF the O’s can’t trade Manny right now, I would think that adding Cole and McCutchen would make us pretty competitive this year.  Most likely not enough to be playoff contenders this year however couldn’t we then trade Manny and Cutch before the trade deadline?  Also...wouldn’t we get a pick if we didn’t trade Cutch?  Having Cole, Bundy and Gausman would be, at the very least, an exciting 1-2-3 punch.  Maybe I’m way off base with my opinion but I like the possibilities.  Thoughts?

We'd have to give up 3/4 guys from our top 10 prospect list for another failed attempt to make the second wild card.

Actually I don't think we have anything that would be worth Cole

Completely wrong direction to be going

Just curious here but would we really have to give up 3-4 top prospects for Cole since the Pirates want Cutch included in the deal?  I don’t disagree that Cole by himself would take 3-4 top prospects but Cole with Cutch may not take as much.  Maybe I’m wrong.  I just look at it this way...worst case scenario is that we have to give up a top prospect or two but we get that young, controllable pitcher we’re looking for and we can either trade Manny and Cutch at the deadline OR if we can’t trade them, we get a draft pick for each.  I certainly don’t want us to get simply a draft pick for Manny (actually I’d be quite infuriated like most of you) however if the worst case scenario is that we end up wit Cole and 2 draft picks while having to give up 1-2 top prospects (and let’s not kid ourselves...we know “our” top prospects are different than “other teams” top prospects), I’m honestly intrigued.  Again...just an idea. It’s very possible we don’t have enough to make the trade but if we did, I’d at least consider it.

If we're going to keep Manny and just get a pick for him (something I COMPLETELY disagree with). We might as well go all in.

Cole/McCutchen for Hays, Harvey, Stewart, Moutcastle, Scott, competitive pick, and international money.

Sign Darvish.

Sign Vargas/Tillman.

Pray we win the world series.

The Pirates may want to move McCutchen, but his contract isn't an albatross.  They don't have to give him away.  If the Pirates can get Frazier and Adams for Cole, why add McCutchen to get less quality prospects?  They could move him separately and get something of value.

I'm interested to see if McCutchen gains any return at all.  He might be another Kipnis, a formerly great player, still useful, but no longer earning his contract in his club's eyes.

Assuming we hold Machado and remain in on 2018, he's a wildcard possibility to me for our 3rd OF if we can't get worthwhile pitchers to take our money.

I doubt it will happen, but I think it's probably in Jones's best interest for free agency next offseason to demonstrate whether he can still be plus in a corner, and McCutchen's one of the few CF's with enough stature that he could accept a 2018 move.

I'd like the deal, but don't see it happening. The only way something like that can happen is in a three-way trade:

Orioles trade Manny Machado and a mid-grade prospect or two for Cutch and Cole

Pirates trade Cutch and Cole and gets prospects (mostly from TEAM X)

TEAM X trades young prospects and gets Manny

That could work, but the Orioles are still trading away Manny for another one-year deal. That doesn't seem to make much sense. They're also only getting one starter while looking for two. Unless O's flip Cutch for that other arm.

Great, Cole is close to going to the Yankees. But hey, we're gonna sign someone like Garza, Feldman, or Cashner.  So you know, we're right there with them!!

Honestly, I'm not going to be too upset if they give up Adams and Frazier for Cole.

Probably should be looking at cutch.  He's the kind of 20/80/80 outfielder the Orioles could use if the price isn't too high.

Watching Cutch and Adam on the same outfield would be freaking awesome.

For one year... yippee!  And it would be awesome watching them run to get the multiple balls in the gap and watching those going over the fence as we have ZERO pitching.
