Roch mentioned this guy today.   He’s 6’7”, 215 and pitched in the Dominican summer league last year.   2.49 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and apparently pitched in the fall instructs.    He pitched last year at age 19 — 0.3 years older than the average DSL player.    But there’s an international player to watch.

He was the only DSL guy (who hadn’t made his Domestic league debut) invited to instructs, so they must think something of him.

2/3 BB/9. I like guys who throw strikes (unlike our entire pitching staff ex-Bundy).

I like velocity.  Any readings?

Looks like this guy was apparently signed three years ago by the Indians.  I can’t find any other info as to why they let him go as a free agent.

Leonardo Rodriguez:

The Indians have signed 16-year-old Dominican right-hander Leonardo Rodriguez for $300,000. At 6-foot-7, 200 pounds, Rodriguez has plenty of projection to add to his a fastball that touches the low-90s. With his arm speed and size, he projects to be a power pitcher with the potential to reach the mid-90s or better, with his breaking ball and changeup still in their early stages. Rodriguez pitched in the Dominican Prospect League.

I assume that if we have a promising player from the Dominican, he'll turn out to to be someone who's been signed and cut loose by another team. I thought this guy might be an exception, but instead he's just further confirmation of how difficult the Orioles make it for themselves by confining their talent search to other teams' unwanted scraps.

They have always made that a clear admission. 16-year-olds are not their bag.  Baby.

Yeah, I don't recall hearing this from the Orioles, ever:
