Cashner update

From Heyman:

free agent righty Andrew Cashner is reportedly angling for a three-year pact. While the 31-year-old did manage a 3.40 ERA in 166 2/3 innings in 2017, teams will be wary given that he carried only a meager 4.6 K/9 on the year.

If the O's want him they probably have to go 2 years with a vesting option on a third is my guess.

I'd rather sign Cobb for the 4/70 he is reportedly willing to accept. Then trade Manny to the Cubs for Montgomery and Russell.

Hard to imagine that they Cubs or Brewers wouldn't offer him more.

It would be those two plus prospects and the Orioles would be fools not to accept. They get nothing if they don't trade Manny

For the difference between what Cobb and Cashner will accept Id side Cobb

Cashner will get 3/35/45 ...so yeah I think you'd be better off with Cobb for 17.5 per ad opposed to 12-15 per year

Cashner is terrible, I sincerely hope we don't do anything like that.

So far it does not sound like the O's will go 4 years for any pitcher this off season.

Because they’re out of touch with reality.

They're going to compete this year, so far their only strategy appears to be hope and prayer.

If Cashner is signed on a two year deal and another SP is signed or traded for that is better than Cashner then I'd be okay with the situation. If Cashner is signed to anchor a spot with someone like Tillman signed and the fifth spot up for grabs for Wright, Cortes, and Ynoa types then color me unenthusiastic and ready to concede the season before it begins. Because Ubaldo's signing turn off to be something they regretted for 4 years.

Vargas is still out there.   We hear little about the 18 game winner.

Because he's also not good. Both Vargas and Cashner project for ~5.00 ERAs. They aren't good and adding them won't make this team competitive.

According to reports, Cubs offered Cobb 3/52.5, which he turned down. Same $17.5mm AAV, but a year less. Maybe the Brewers will step up.
