Landing spots for Scott and Wells

According to Jon Meoli, Scott's going to be developed as a starting pitcher - probably in Norfolk.  Welp, hopefully it'll help make him more of a pitcher.  I think we all know that whatever role he's developed for, his command and control need to improve.  If that happens, we have an exciting young pitcher.

I'm extremely torn on it. He would be an exciting young flamethrower of a pitcher as a starter, but his stuff seems to play a whole lot better in a shorter outing.

Unless he pulls a third pitch out on his you know where, it seems ridiculous.  I didn’t read the Meoli comment but are they legitimately going to stretch him out or just keep him on the 3 inning routine? Because the 3 inning starts to have a routine and work on stuff does not equal starter.

It looks like they want to work him as a starter in Norfolk to develop his changeup and if he gets it under control like he did his breaking ball, they would push for him to be a start in the Majors.

Hmmm, just seems like a lot of development to expect from someone Scott’s age. I just don’t know if it’s wise when he’s maybe only a half grade of control away from being an MLB set-up man.

I agree. It's as if they didn't see Aroldis Chapman with the Reds and want a Randy Johnson type.

I'd rather they spend time working with Akin like they did last season and developing a few more legit starters.

They can’t work with two pitchers?  Damn, the rest of our minor league pitchers are really screwed!  :-)

3 should be fine. 2 regular starters then one super utility guy with a wicked knuckleball as an emergency starter!

Scott will never be a major league starter.

It's the Orioles. Round peg will fit the square hole.

I’d be happy if Scott even fits in the round (reliever) hole at the major league level.

Scott had good control when he was a 3 inning "starter". So, we'll see. Wouldn't mind him and Long piggybacking like they did last year

Not sure good is the right word to use. :P

    • Now if someone could find a list of Boras clients with respect to their WAR, that would be interesting. Pre FA and after.
    • Eric Longenhagen's chat today on Ethan mentions a flaw that EL regards as so damaging as to reduce him to mid 1st round. 12:45 Refugee: Appreciate your insight on Over-Slot recently. Do you consider Ethan Holliday’s swing flaw being identified this early something that works for (he’s not even 18 yet) or against him? 12:45 Eric A Longenhagen: Fugee is talking about this podcast appearance: Ep. 125: Jim Callis and Eric Longenhagen join the show. A Draft Lottery Preview. | Patreon 12:47 Eric A Longenhagen: I’m not sure it’s correctable, I think his hands just work in a way that leaves him very vulnerable to many fastballs up/away. I have him more middle of the first round. 72% contact guy on the showcase circuit, hit .240 and slugged .380 when you add up his entire multi-year showcase sample. Love the raw power potential, don’t think the performance merits a top 5 pick. But the Colorado/Holliday connection and Washington’s willingness to take guys like Elijah Green looms.
    • I'm fine with Castillo but I would like another piece too whether it's Buhler, Manea or another trade like Montgomery who won't cost any big prospects one would think. I sure hope they won't be satisfied with just Castillo as he isn't as good as Burnes. If Baltimore is losing a TOR and not replacing him with a TOR then make the rotation as deep as possible so we don't see another situation like last season.
    • Exactly   Let it play out and judge the postseason when it is complete.   Being made at Elias for something you think he might fail to do is... kind of silly.
    • It will be interesting to watch all the outfield results from Santander/Teoscar down to Hays. Whether you like the play or not, locking down a Boras client to be a market setter rather than a follower was an aggressive move. 50 for O'Neill looks better if Santander actually commands the 5 years reports are tonight he's seeking.    Maybe the market is so healthy Dombrowski miscalculated and the gift of early free agency is a windfall for Hays.
    • I'm not expert on that.  So I remain open to hearing anyone's disputes regarding my projections, but I did my best to project a fair, median ground for the collective. It would be nice if Frobby was here to check my work.
    • Any flexibility for AR and TON leaving, would almost certainly be eaten up by the increases in the other guys' Arb salaries.  And you're also walking into Gunnar's last season of control, so has he been extended?  Or do you trade him? I'm not saying you can't sign Burnes.  But I am saying if you want to keep payroll under 200 mil, and still be a competitive team, he better be pitching at a high level for the salary he's projected to be making.
