Black hat, white panel, orange bill, cartoon bird

Those hats looked great last night. Bring back the magic!

As much as I have fond memories of that hat and like to see it on occasion, I'm not sure I'd like to see it everyday.

In the hip hop scene I guess it is. The popularity of MLB hats I see is probably:

Yankees (by far the leader and comes in many different varieties)

Mets

Red Sox

and then that stupid O's hat is right there with the White Sox and Dodgers

Ugh. I've hated that hat since they unveiled it as the Friday night alternate, and decry it to anyone who will listen. It's the antithesis of the argument about putting Baltimore on the road jersey, if you think about it.

I'd be ecstatic if they even brought the cartoon bird back as the Friday night alternate. But bring it back in some way.

I'm with you, Ton. I think it's because, even though they were made in the late 70s, they look so 80s. And not just because that's the majority of the time they were used, it's just the design looks so 80s.

It was 1963. http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/detail_page.asp?fileName=al_1963_baltimore.gif&Entryid=1007

And I hate to pull a Cindy but no no no to wearing a B hat. It might look nice but that is Boston's thing and the last thing I want is to be accused of copying the Red Sox.

Not the block "B", more like this:

See, told ya. :D

And I'm probably not even one of the 20 or so people you were talking about. :D

They should combine the new style and old style. The script is awesome. I really don't like the sleeve piping or leg piping...Keep the piping simple or non-existent with that script, and we have a classic and classy uni.

I agree with this, the unis they wore last night were cool for a night but they are probably too "loud" to look at every night. They also looked like they weren't sized properly, probably because it was just a one day thing and they didn't care to get everything exactly right. I actually like the sleeve stripes but they looked stupid last night because most guys were wearing sleeves much too big. I don't like the leg and waist striping, it's just too much. And I may be in the minority around here but I really hate stirrup socks. Awful.

The O's have a lot of interesting ideas for uniforms in their history, but they often haven't gotten things 100% right. They should be able to mix and match some of the elements and put together a very nice uniform that (most importantly) looks coherent and that 95% or so of us would absolutely love.

Maybe you're right about the sleeve piping, but it just seems so 80s style to me. I'd rather see classic piping styles. And agreed on the stirrups. I wouldn't mind them wearing solid orange socks instead of black. That'd be a good look.

I thought it would be interesting to see what cap you would like to see the Orioles wear next season on most games.

Let's make this easy and go with four choices:

Current hat

Black hat, orange bill, cartoon bird

Current Friday night hat - Black, orange bill - w/O

New Hat - Black and Orange with B

Why can't we have a little of everything?

I think MLB regulations only allow three styles in a season, save for special promotions like turn back the clock night. Hence our three hats: Home (black hat orange brim), Away (all black hat), Home Alternate (black hat orange brim EVIL O'S LOGO BURN THEM!).

Thanks for the info.... is there a rule about whether all the players have to wear the same hat? lol Maybe the infield can wear one style, the outfield another, and the pitcher and catcher another... that way everyone can be pleased. :clap3:

Yeah, they gotta wear the same unis. Though, technically, they're all supposed to wear them the same. They're technically breaking the rules when some have high socks and some wear the pants to their shoe bottoms.

Any variation of the cartoon bird, but I voted for the black hat, orange brim one.

I have a throwback one from 1966 that's all black, I like that one the best though. But yeah, any variation.

Tony, do you know something we don't? :)

I agree 100%. I have the 1966 one that you do. What seals the deal for me is that when you are out in the city or whatever, you see many more of the cartoon bird hats than the actual regular hats they wear. I am not a big fan of the O's hats at all but, I don't mind it occassionally.

To me, if you see more people wearing your former hat than the current one, it's time to make a switch. The regular bird hats they wear now are atrocious.

I hope they make the change. They looked great last night. Maybe modernize it and get rid of the sleeve piping & stirrups but, definitely should go back to it.
