Compensation

Players who reject qualifying offers still garner compensation to the original club.

Lorenzo Cain was an example.

Quote

Cain rejected a qualifying offer from the Royals, draft compensation will result from the signing. As an organization that received revenue sharing and did not go past the competitive balance tax line in 2017, Milwaukee will have to sacrifice its third-highest draft pick. For the Royals, bidding adieu to Cain — since he signed for more than $50MM — will mean recouping a pick after the end of the first round.

I'm  just wondering.  Given the comments of Mr. Boreass. Stop.  That is unfair.  I appreciate he works hard for his clients.  And I believe he is really one of the best in that regard.  But the above is really bull spit.

His comments above have absolutely nothing to do with his concern for integrity and nothing to do with his concerns regarding competition.  How about we ask Mr. Boras if we can go to a fan base, like say...Baltimore, you know just as a for instance...and say, Mr. Boras, in order to be more competitive, we would like to give Chris Davis' money to Jake.

Im just sayin....

Be honest, is there anything - anything at all - more refreshing than to wake up to a lecture on integrity from Scott Boras?

I think if anyone ever needed a precise and complete example of sophistry, it would be hard to find better than Boras' comments in this article.

FWIW, and because it would potentially (whether this year or down the road) pertain to the Orioles- competitive balance picks are exempt from the qualifying offer rules. So the O's would theoretically lose their 3rd round pick instead of their 3rd overall pick (2nd rounder). Same for Milwaukee who loses their 3rd round pick instead of their comp B pick.

Is this correct?  If so thank you. I did know that a compensation pick was fair game but it would make sense that a competitive balance would be excluded.

There seems to be some confusion, but the Brewers' beat guy says Milwaukee confirmed that with MLB.

As do the Cubs fans.

The reason it went so well in Chicago is that Theo was very open with the fans. He told us from day one, this is going to take 3,4 or 5 seasons. He also made sure to be honest when FA came around each year. He never got the hopes up and the organization kept the fans extremely educated with the guys coming up on the farm. Prospects are usually for the super fans, but Theo made it so that even the common fan knew who our good prospects were. So rather than worry about the state of the team, people got more and more excited about watching the prospects grow and mature as they made their way to the majors.
