Since Dan is unsure of where the starting pitching is coming from, how about we help him. With the restraints put on him by ownership, what are the best suggestions you can give him for starting pitching for 2018? And no inconceivable trades; realistic possibilities only.

Can we use examples?

Like how the Brewers conned a non-contender into trading a young, cost controlled starting pitcher for Parra?

Or how the Red Sox turned a couple of months worth of Andrew Miller into a member of their rotation?

Yes, but that is gone now. I'm talking about right now, in the present. Whatever has happened in the past has happened.

But that is how you get pitching if you can't get FA to come to you and you won't invest in the international market.  I don't think you can get enough arms from just the draft.

Yes, I understand. Mistakes have been made. This thread is not meant to discuss those. There are many others. I am just asking people with more baseball knowledge than me what you would do RIGHT NOW to fix the starting pitching based on what we presently have to work with.

I'm being honest.

Dan needs to trade off assets to get young pitching.

That's the solution.

Or you can get onboard the three rule V pitcher strategy.

BTW my limited baseball knowledge was enough that I saw this mess coming years ago.

Those trades were mid-season. Bahama O's is talking about the right now: the off-season. That makes a difference.

But, yes, I will go along... If the Orioles are trying to win the World Series this year, they are going to need to trade some pieces for starters. That puts on the table Hays, Sisco, Mountcastle, Mullins, Stewart, Reyes, Harvey, Hall and anyone else who is not expected to have an impact this season. Could argue that includes Mancini, too.

I could see the members of the OH family burning down OPACY if they traded those prospects. I would be willing to trade any of the prospects for the right return, but I think the management instead will keep one foot on the gas and the other on the brake.

What's the payroll limitation?  Trade for Straily by taking on either one of their $7M relievers or Prado.

I would assume, maybe wrongly, that we could take on payroll. I think we are about 30-40 million less than last season right now. Which reliever would you take? How much is Straily making? What would you give up?

He could flip Manny, Schoop, Brach and Givens in less than a week.  (If he could get ownership approval natch).

I'm sure with Manny and Schoop both in the mix you could get some arms for 2018 and pieces for the future.

I might would be OK with trading prospects for a couple starters if I were more enamored of this team's defense, offense and bullpen.  You can't plug a couple #3 starters into this rotation at the expense of the farm and reach the playoffs.

Part of why I am not enamored of trading for Straily. Not sure he is even a #3. Don't think Cashner is a #3 either. Need stronger starters, sure. And I have no problem with trading Brach and Givens, because I think they are replaceable.

Though they could trade Manny or Schoop, I think that means they are not chasing the WS. If that's the case, they should keep the prospects and plug in whatever pitchers they have to see if one will stick for 2019.
