I apologize for posting it here, but this seems to be where everyone is.

I was hoping that folks who ran sites back in the day or remember who ran sites and could get me in contact with those guys would take part in this effort I am taking to document the "golden era" of Orioles fan blogs.

You can have them email me at camdendepot at gmail.

So runners for sites like Cookin with Gas, Orioles Think Tank, Oriole Way, Weaver's Tantrum, etc.

I have so far been able to contact these defunct sites:

Orioles Uncensored (a more recent defunct site)

Dempsey's Army

Camden Crazies / Frost King Baseball

Bowie Baysox Blog

Birds of Prey

Thanks

I liked http://thewaywardoriole.com/ but he doesn't update his site anymore. You can catch him on Twitter @TheWaywardO.

His blog was bizarre in a very "squee" kind of way, but was always truthful.

The Wayward Oriole was a legitimately groundbreaking blog in terms of Orioles things on the internet. It was meme-heavy before memes had become pervasive, it was weird, it was written in an extremely specific style, and it's yet to be duplicated by anyone since. No one has even tried to create an Orioles-fan-based internet Thing. It stands as completely unique in the world of Orioles fan blogs.

Oops. Completely finished the sentence in my head without bothering to write it.

I was a brief contributor for The Loss Column, a Baltimore sports site created by Neal Shaffer.

I met Neal at the Baltimore jersey unveiling at the Gallery mall a couple years back. I was a regular Loss Column reader.

    • By some defensive metrics, Ryan Mountcastle and 2024 Gold Glove winner Carlos Santana are similar:  https://www.fieldingbible.com/drs-leaderboard/players?position=3 FWIW Luis Castillo's value at Baseball Trade Values has jumped from a negative $30.6 million on November 8, to a negative $6.1 million on November 22, to a positive $5.5 million on December 2 to a positive $2.8 million Monday to a positive $7.7 million Friday evening. The Mariners will continue to monitor Castillo's trade value as the pitching market evolves this offseason. Trade offers should determine Castillo's trade value although his no-trade clause complicates matters.
    • Context matters.  Really I should have made a much longer post incorporating the following image.   The O's are roughly 20th in revenue.  (TBH, I have some questions about that.  I think it might be lower) They're currently 19th in payroll.  Is it really fair to say they're underspending?  (Mind you this chart is a few years older.) There are a lot of people claiming they can spend 200 a year on salary.  Maybe.  But it's fair to say team's with similar payrolls don't do that.
    • This is true, but the problem remains if you sign some guy to a 7 year contract, while that money might be palatable in 2026, it could quickly grow not so in the upcoming years.  Obviously, if you could sign Burnes for 1/2 years you'd do it; but that isn't really an option.
    • What happened in the 2nd half w Adley is puzzling. I would say however that 17 mill in 2027 should be more like 10% of the payroll, so far more palatable than 20%.
    • You have to look at payroll in context though thinking 3 years in advance compared to what league average will be with revenue increasing.  This is league average payroll.   2019 112 million 2020 58 million but was Covid year. 2021 120 million 2022 134 million 2023  150 million 2024 156 million So league average is up 36 million 4 years.  If it keeps around that pace league average should be over 180 million so that 100 million would be little over half of league average payroll.
    • This is drastically underestimating Paredes
    • they did not. 2 big moves so far, bring in Fried and Williams, but lose Holmes anf Cortez, Not to mention Soto. Oblivious there not yet but as it stands now they are not as good. and god forbid Stanton regresses or Judge gets hurt.
