I need some help with the Yankees payroll.    I have been reading that the Yankees are 15m under the 197 luxury tax limit.   That puts them at 182m.   However Cots shows them at 161m   Why the difference?

This site says they are $22M under.  You can use this to compare to cots.

Calculations for the luxury tax are based on AAV of the players' contracts, not the current year's payroll. Some contracts pay more in the beginning, while others are weighted to pay more in the end. Using the AAV eliminates the discrepancies, but the number won't match the current year's payroll.

I "think" that each team has to add something like 10 mil a year to cover medical ins. I could be wrong.
