Why is Machado Playing SS This Season?

A. Because we have a secret deal that if he gets to play SS and likes it he will resign with us?

B. Buck likes Beckham at 3B?

C. We are trying to increase his value to trade him at the deadline?

D. We are planning on signing another 3B?

E. Davis is moving to 3B and Trumbo or Mancini is playing 1B?

F. The players took a vote and this is what they wanted so Buck is letting them have their way?

G. Dan and Buck don't care since PA won't extend them and just doing whatever?

H. Any other ideas?

In the Angels game was amazingly bad. I just saw the replay and it’s hard to fathom what he was thinking and how did he make such a bad throw.

At live speed, that play looked awfully bad on Manny's part.  But if you go back and look at it closely under slow speed, I'm going to say that Davis should have caught the ball.

First. The play itself: It's an instinctual baseball play. Manny thought he could catch Simmons sleeping, so he made a snap throw to second. Was there a chance Manny could have caught him? Sure. Manny has a cannon. Was it likely? No. Was it necessary? Probably not.

In retrospect he obviously should have just pocketed the ball, but I won't fault him for trying to make something happen.

And yes, the ball did sail on him a little.

But go back and watch the play. Davis isn't even looking at the ball as he nears second. He's looking down at the base, down at the runner. And he never actually makes an attempt at catching the ball. He instead fakes a tag. It was probably a catchable ball.

Buck’s so called famous attention to detail breaks down again...who was supposed to be behind Davis on that throw?  This is where these shifts totally screw up...nobody knows who is supposed to be where...what was Davis even doing over there on a clear double...clear...no play possible... And Manny can still be a real knucklehead in between his brilliance at times.

Palmer explained this: As the first basemen, Davis' job there is to trail the runner, so Davis is right being on second.

I like how the play was labeled a little league home run.   A faster outfielder probably could have kept that you going to the wall.

I only saw the replay, from what I saw it looked like a terrible attempt to be Robbie Alomar in his prime. It sure looked like a terrible goof to me. Maybe Manny just doesn't want to be a Dodger. ;)

keep hitting Manny, keep hitting.  I'll be glad when you are gone.  I'll be a little happier if you get something in return.  I've never been more disappointed in an Oriole b/c I thought this guy would be a superstar, a leader of men.  He's shown himself to be supremely talented, but he is no leader.  A few years ago, I never thought I'd type something like this, but his laziness and lack of attention to doing the little things has worn on me.  Adios Machado.

Ah, right.  Because every leader of men ever was totally awesome at it by age 25.

Give me a break. If the throw doesn't sail, the runner is out and inning over. Looks to me that Davis is late covering the bag and that probably throws off the throw.

Davis gets all the blame on here. Even when Manny makes a bad throw it's on Davis. I can't even see Davis clearly enough to tell where he is looking.

Bad play all around but Davis didn't even make an attempt on the ball.  He was worried about getting undercut by the runner and didn't even extend.

The runner is clearly touching the bag and the ball is not to the base. It was a very dumb throw. The only reasonable excuse IMO is if this was a play they had talked about before the game. Seems very unlikely and it’s still a terrible throw.
