IIRC we were in the hunt for Schmidt and Pavano at the time they were FA's. Thank God the Orioles' FO couldn't close anything in those days.

You have to wonder if MacPhail doesn't have a little cross-stitched homily hanging on his office wall:

It is a telling comment on the Dodgers' financial acumen that Juan Pierre couldn't make the all-overpaid team. One can only conclude it's because there were too many Dodgers ahead of him.
