The folks that evaluated Tillman and found him worth of a ML contract are getting ready to make trade deadline deals

How's that make you feel?

Exactly...just who is responsible for saying Chris Tillman could and can still pitch?  The same guys that said Ubaldo and Gallardo were going to be the tickets to the playoffs?  The same guys that said Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright were good enough to be starters on a supposed pennant contender?  The same guys that said Nick was washed up? or Cruz would never hit any more?   The  same guys who thought Gerardo Parra could play and Zach Davies couldn’t?   Or that Travis Snider was an answer to anything having to do with a team that was this close to a World Series?

And whoever “those guys” that are making all these calls,  I hope somebody is actually held accountable.

No way to know but my gut feeling is that scouts were not asked about Tillman.

BTW no one said Cruz wouldn't hit or that Nick was washed up.  At least not that I ever heard.  As has been stated many times, they offered Markakis a three year contract at a fair market value.

And they offered him 3 years because they thought Nick would be washed up certainly by the fourth year.  Or his neck would fall off, sometime in the interim.  Or they thought a lot of things  I suspect other than he would be “leading NL in hits, and a starting All Star in 4th year”.   They were wrong.    And if I could ask the decision maker at the time to have put out there in public his answer to a simple question ...”How much WAR do you see Nelson putting up in the next 4 years?  How close do you think they would they have been to the correct answer of  15.8 WAR with half season still to go in his fourth year? “    Not very close, imho.    Essentially they misjudged and undervalued his talent as a hitter.  It happens, but they just act like it wasn’t a misjudgement.

Somebody does know who made all these decisions, although rooting it out is an investigative reporter type job.  Not that the fans have ever been privileged to knowing anything by ownership, as there is no transparency or accountability to their customers, and never has been...but somebody in that Warehouse does know exactly who made all these bad calls.

What does it really matter anyway? So we lose 5-2 or 7-3 instead of 3-1 or 4-2? This team’s inability to score more than 3 runs is almost unbelievable. They also excel in solo homers because they can’t get base runners. They have no lead off hitter - non hitting catchers, first basemen, second and third basemen, and only one mediocre hitting corner outfielder. So why hasn’t Duquette been given his walking papers by now? Anyone know??

    • We also need to examine if he’s not putting in enough work and preparation and see if he’s spending too much time with his girlfriend.  I’m with @glenn__davison this one. Yeah, you sucked, you said everything was fine. Own it.  It doesn’t make me feel good that our so-called leader and elite catcher and face of the franchise is already beat up at age 26, so much so that he limped to the finish line in an embarrassingly awful way.  Back issues don’t always go away so easily, is this something that’s going to drag into 2025?  It’s an inherently brutal position from a physical perspective, is it already time to fit him for a first baseman’s glove and hope that he can put up an .800 OPS there? We all knew that move was going to happen one day, maybe it’s time now. I wouldn’t be too mad at it, it gets Mounty and O’Hearn out of here.  But all I know for sure is that I was so wrong in 2019, and a lot of us were. I’d so much rather have Bobby Witt instead.
    • No, they’re good.  I mean, they’re good enough. And what they really are, is boring.  Outside of Bobby Witt Jr., there’s nothing exciting about that team.  They signed a bunch of boring free agents like Lugo and Wacha, guys that we sneered at because they don’t have “elite” stuff.  And all Lugo and Wacha did were turn in boringly great seasons.     I’m sure their fans aren’t blowing each other over and over again about how great their farm system is and filling out make believe lineups on fielding 1-9 100% home grown talent.    They rely on pitching and defense.  Shouldn’t be a foreign concept to Orioles fans that remember the good old days, but it seems like it is.  No, the Royals are good. They’re just boring. No superstars outside of Witt, Salvy and maybe Ragans. They play in a boring city and a boring ballpark in front of boring fans.  Their farm system is boring.    Meanwhile we’re over here saying how great we should be because of Jackson Holliday and Coby Mayo and Heston Kjerstad and Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson and all this youth and talent that’s going to have us winning all the time and life is going to be so great.  Can’t be bothered to sign guys like Lugo and Wacha, those guys aren’t elite enough for our amazing window of talent!   We’re like the definition of being born on third base and thinking we’ve hit a triple.
    • They're not good.  No sour grapes or me being a bitter Betty, the Royals aren't a good baseball team.   As disappointing as last year was at least TEX was a talented team on a heater. I'm happy whenever the Yankees lose but I kind of want them to sweep KC, not that I really have much against the Royals, I just want our guys to truly understand what apitiful performance that was.
    • I can't speak for others obviously, but I have a lot of concern over the hitting approach. This approach is unpleasant to watch and has been pretty much all year. Cowser striking out with the bases loaded and 1 out on a pitch that breaks his hand because it is so inside is the perfect symbol for everything that is wrong with what we do. He was swinging no matter where that pitch was going. But I am more concerned that there is simply nothing at all special about anyone we have in place in the organization....whether it be the GM, analytics gurus, managers, coaching staff, or players.  They just look like an ordinary organization and ordinary team to me that isn't any better at what they do than anyone else. And sadly, when the stakes are high and the pressure ramps up, we are worse than anyone else.  42-48 in their last 90 is pretty telling, especially when they looked their best sweeping 3 in a row to end the regular season in the only 100% meaningless games played in that stretch.  They are enjoyable to watch, when the pressure is totally off. At least we still have playoff baseball to watch. I'll try not to cry or be too jealous when I watch the Brewers and Padres and see what a young Jackson is supposed to look like as opposed to the one we have.
    • Yeah I don't want to hear it.  He and Hyde have been saying he's healthy, now some vague comments.  You sucked. Own it, take a long look in the mirror and figure out why, and come back next year.
    • Awwww! Gunnar was crying! Adley was trying to hold back tears! They’re such a tight knit group! They all realize that Burnes and Tony probably won’t be back! My heart is breaking!!!!!!!   💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭😭
