Let's be honest, it wasn't just a one man hate group.  :-P  In all seriousness, it wasn't hate (at least not for me - can't speak for others), just an unfortunate serious difference of opinion on some things that I'm glad got worked out. :-)

Hi Everyone!

Due to the success of this giveaway last year, I'm doing it again! :D

I would like to give away 1-Year OH Plus Membership to five lucky winners who are at least semi-active contributors to OH but for whatever reason have not purchased Plus (or let it lapse).

Nominees who meet a set of criteria (see below) will be randomly selected by assigning each qualifying nominee a number, and then picking five numbers at random. The OH Staff will award each winner an OH Plus membership!

Dates:

Nominations open on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the time this post goes up.

It ends on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:59 PM Eastern. Submissions after this time will not be considered.

The winners will be selected and announced on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at a time convenient for me (sorry, I am human :$).

 

To qualify:

1. Contestant must be an OH member with at least 50 posts, account in good standing (no active Warnings), and account is not suspended.

2. Contestant must have logged in to the OH forums at some point during the 2018 Regular Season so far. So, inactive members who haven't logged in during the regular season do not qualify.

3. Contestant must not be a current Plus member (prior Plus members who lapsed their subscription still qualify).

4. Contestant must be an active participant (not just reader) in the forums during the 2018 Orioles Season (including Spring Training), as determined qualitatively by me alone. To give you an idea of my criteria: someone who has posted once in the 2018 season would not qualify, but someone who's posted about two posts a week during Spring Training, and has posted 10 posts in the past 2 weeks would definitely qualify.

 

Nomination Process:

Reply to this post with the following:

1. Link to forum profile of nominee, or just write "Self" if you're nominating yourself.

2. If nominating self: Brief description of why you enjoy participating in the OH boards (this will not be used to bias the chances of the nominee winning, as the drawing is random) /OR/ If nominating other: Brief description of your (hopefully positive) experience with this other person on the OH boards.

3. OPTIONAL (I've decided this is silly and unneeded) - Copy and paste this: "The contestant nominated in this post meets all qualification criteria to the best of my knowledge."

Each person can only nominate a maximum of 2 people (including themselves, if they are not a Plus member).

 

How do I find eligible members to nominate?

Here is a URL that you can click on. When you do so, it will search the OH forums for registered users with the "Limited Posting Member" title, and it will sort them in descending order by post count.

That is NOT to say you shouldn't nominate people with low post counts. Feel free to do so, by all means! This might just be the list of people who, although they contribute prolifically to OH, are not currently Plus members.

Winner Drawing Process:

On Saturday, April 14, 2018, I will edit this original post containing a list of all forum members who were nominated and qualified as a contestant, along with the list of winners. The winners will be drawn at random using the random number generator at https://random.org. In short: qualifying for the drawing is subjective, but winners will be randomly selected.

Weams has informed me that he will work out a way to manually award a 1-Year Plus Membership to each winner at the conclusion of the contest. I have arranged PayPal payment of the full price of all five subscriptions in one transaction ($125 USD) to the owners of OriolesHangout, and gotten the approval of Weams to post this.

      There’s a good chance McCann starts game one with Burnes. Big roster. We can always move Adley from DH to C late in the game. Lose the DH, but have a big enough bench to just pinch hit and double switch to hide the pitcher’s spot coming up.  So really we’d only be sacrificing 2 ABs from O’Hearn/Mounty/Kjerstad but we get Burnes throwing to his boy every pitch.

      We would have lost last night regardless due to zero runs scored by the offense. It is worrisome that Cano looked awful in back to back games. After talk about arm soreness. He has been the one reliable guy. Once we fell behind I don't really care how bad Bowman and Baker are. Hopefully they don't even make the roster for the playoffs.

      I do worry about the McCann start although he has been hitting lately, so maybe you can justify it.

      It’s the 7th inning with Burnes or Eflin on the bump. A tough lefty is coming up. Who you bringing in?  Perez or Coloumbe?

      My thoughts: - I agree that the Achilles heel is the bullpen and not the offense (especially with Westburg, Mountcastle, Urias, and Kjerstad back). - I also agree that Perez is overused in high leverage situations. This is going to come down to the degree you expect his “clutch” performance to be predictive going forward.  - I second the notion that most good bullpens are built with some degree of dumpster diving.  If you go back to offseason threads, there were not many desired bullpen FA targets (outside of unrealistic ones like Hader) that would have worked out well.  Maybe we haven’t “dumpster dived” well enough as evidenced by the success of Kaleb Ort in Houston. - Jacob Webb hasn’t been sharp since returning from the IL and Bowman has looked shaky his last few times out. - We don’t have a true closer, only a group of mostly effective set-up men in Dominguez, Cano, and Coulombe. - Part of me wishes they would be more aggressive with G-Rod and the Mountain. While we expect the team to continue to contend, you never really know how many times you’ll be back in the playoffs. However, I know in my head they are probably making the right decision. - I also feel like they should be auditioning McDermot, Selby, Young, or Strowd (who has been very good since August after rough Norfolk start). They could option Baker who I think is unlikely to have a path to trusted status after last year’s ALDS performance. This feeling may be mostly driven by dissatisfaction with the current state and wanting something better.  It might be unrealistic to expect options unproven at the MLB level to suddenly step in and be key playoff pieces.

      Oh if we’re talking about what they will do, I can see it being something stupid like McCann at C and Adley at DH. I do think Mullins has enough veteranosity to outweigh Hyde’s obsession with L/R matchups.
