Here is the thing. If we were Boston or NY many of the trades Dan made never happen because we would have signed some FA to fill the gap. No International spending while you are winning makes it extremely difficult to build a strong system.

I think unless you have a dominant top 3 it is hard to just give away a game every 5th time out.

They don't have to be good, just better than the other guy's 5th starter and keep you in more games than their guy.

Even then, who would keep running Tillman out every fifth game? Even if you had Gibson, Seaver and Palmer...
