John Andreoli Claimed from and by Seattle

Andreoli seems like a cheap controllable Rickard with a bit more speed. He's essentially  a six year younger Gentry. Nothing that moves the needle but does give them a cheaper 5th outfielder who can brings some speed to the team off the bench.

Excellent defense and they say an above average arm. Does anyone on the current roster have an above average OF arm? His steal rate is 80%.  Just what we need to compliment Cedric. One ML scout said if AJ accepts a trade this month he can start in RF as his replacement. It looks like it could happen sooner than September.

Rickard and Andreoli are both being paid this year about the same amount of salary.  The major league minimum of 545K.    Both players will also receive close to the major league minimum next year.  Rickard will have 2 years 118 day after  this season if he is recalled on September 1st.     That will not qualify him to be Super 2.   He has been optioned 4 times this season.

Extra points for the name-dropping, even if It's not a plus to be rated among Trung.

Yes, I was just gong for the rhyme.

But don't be shocked if the O's are able to get something (not much, but maybe a halfway decent prospect) for Gentry in trade by 8/31.  Players like him are useful off the bench for teams trying to make the playoffs - for late-inning defense, pinch-running, and situational pinch-hitting.  Atlanta could use him.  They traded for Duvall as their 4th OFer, and he's been useless.

He will have more service time than that, because any time a player is optioned for less than 20 days, the intervening service time is restored.   Rickard was optioned for less than 20 days in late June/early July, and his current stint at Norfolk is likely to last less than 20 days as well.

I do not believe this is correct according to Cots Contracts.   The time is the minors does not count against major league service time if it is less than 20 days for the whole season.

  • Quote

If a player’s optional assignment(s) to the minors totals less than 20 days in one season, an option is not used.

This is from "Service Time."

  • ML service time is not credited during any period or periods of optional assignment totaling 20 days or more during a single season.

That quote about “an option is not used” is a different issue than the question about service time.   However, on re-examining the CBA, your position is correct.    Per Article XXI.B, service time is only restored if the total for the year is less than 20 days.     So, thanks for pointing this out, and I stand corrected.

That means the current decision to ship Rickard to Norfolk could very well be motivated by an effort to avoid him reaching super-2 status.     Last year the cutoff was 2 years 123 days, and if he hadn’t been sent down now he might have reached about 2 years 130 days instead of 2 years 118 days.

Thank you. Yes.

I haven’t watched him play at all, but watching him in the OF pregame, he looked like he spends all of his time in the weight room. Dude is an off season candidate for the Brady Anderson circuit training.  #nextobliqueinjuryfrombradyandersonworkouts
