Meaning at this point the Orioles are getting cents on the dollar exchange for a cryptocurrency that has no real value. Except to certain teams. That the Orioles might decide to play nice with. Meaning the Phillies. The Enemy of my Enemy is my friend. Natinals.

If Oscar Meyer is short on bologna, they can find some there.  Part of the justification of the Gausman trade was acquiring 2.5 million of international slot space.  Now, they've apparently traded away 30% of that for a 23 year old rookie ball 1st baseman hitting in the .230's.  This is bad optics for anyone familiar with the industry that also has common sense.

I think you are firmly entrenched on this.

Not sure what I can say beyond, this deal is of no consequence and people are getting upset for no good reason.

I have talked to a few folks in the industry from different organizations, none from Baltimore, their general take is that they do not know why the Orioles wanted him but that it does not impact them for what they are doing at all.

Then what was the point of acquiring the 2.5 millon of slot space?

To provide a commanding buffer against what other teams had to offer, I assume. They are understandably not answering where this money is going.

The Orioles remain about 2 MM than the Marlins and Rays.

Is this 250K or 750K?

It is neither. It is the ability to spend either. I guess they figured that new guy was worth the equivalent of what the expenditure of that money internationally would return.

So they use 250K of 8.5M.

Not sure thats worth getting worked up about.

It is supposedly 750k.

750k at this point in time is fairly meaningless to have at hand to spend on amateurs.

The Orioles did not cede any position by taking this deal.

I know that.

The question is: is the deal for the ability to spend 250K or 750K? This thread is referencing both amounts in discussing the deal. Of the 8+M international spending slot amount we have did we give up the ability to spend 250K or 750K to acquire this 23-year old rookie ball player?

To drive off the Yankees and other Victor suitors at the time?

Fine, but if they don't use it, it's an organizational failure that should not be sugar-coated - which it seems like you 2 are pre-emptively doing.

    • I think it’s like when our fans are terrified because a team brings up a spot starter from AAA and we fear they are going to turn into Cy Young.
    • “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.” — A Bartlett Giamatti https://mason.gmu.edu/~rmatz/giamatti.html

By any measure, Cowser is leading AL rookies in WAR, and it’s not that close. “

    • Every year at the end of the season, I feel a little melancholy. For me, the end of summer is not the start of school or the arrival of fall, but the end of baseball season. Today is the last day of a long song, and I will miss it. I know we have at least four more days, but those are in a different category, although I will miss that too when it ends. During the darkest days of the season, I posted frequently that the worst day of baseball is still baseball. When the Os played terrible, I would go focus on the Brewers or the A’s or Mariners(who were almost as frustrating as the Os) and follow along with former Orioles, rooting for all of them. That will all stop by tonight, and I will miss it until next February, when pitchers and catchers report. If I’m still here, I’ll be here.    Go Os…
    • We have to wait and see. But it shouldn’t matter as you have to beat whomever you play.
