Probably the most interesting group of players involved in instructs since I’ve been following the team.

The strength and conditioning camp got all the guys you’d suspect.

Bishop, Garcia, Gonzalez, Akin, Lowther (although unlike the other 4, Lowther has improved his body comp since being drafted). Dietz is a good pick too, if he was stronger on the lower half, perhaps he could repeat his delivery better.

Reyes needs to figure out how to put the ball in the air more.

They are probably trying to get Diaz a better base to swing from to improve weight transfer.

Billingsley is fun for hitting camp, because he’s a ready made 4th outfielder if he can do a bit more damage on contact. Smart player, good defender, good approach.

I agree with you. Dietz really needs to get that delivery in line because he was an abomination at Frederick with his accuracy.

One thing I found interesting was Collin Woody. He was 3rd/1st in Frederick and is listed as a pitcher on Instructionals. Don't know if that was a mistake or if they are trying to convert him.

Curious what is going on with Dariel Alvarez.

Might as well, he’s only an Org guy as a bat.

As for Dietz, I was surprised they just kept running him out there, it was obvious he was out of whack. It started a couple starts before he was promoted, I don’t think it had anything to do with the level of competition.

I didn't get to see him in Delmarva, so I'll take your word on it starting before.

He was just bad overall. Couldn't even throw it to first accurately.

The only guy who surprised me was Hanifee.    I’d think after 132 innings he’d be done, especially since they intentionally backed off him in July and August.

And they’re having a hitting camp for three guys?

He had a stretch in Delmarva where he was pumping 95-97 with life and good slider/changeup combo. Command wasn’t good, but control was decent, stuff was so good that if he could just throw a reasonable amount of strikes, he’d dominate. Then he just started yanking pitches and battling his release point and the control was gone, and it seems like he never got it back the rest of the season.

They probably want to work with him on his offspeed pitches, I’d be surprised if he threw competive innings.

Out of all the changes to (hopefully) come to the O's, I am most interested in how much they will invest in and what direction they will take the Player Development.  This includes film, speed and strength, nutrition, wellness, sports science, analytics, etc.

Because I look at our system and I see so many prospects who, especially in physicality, are packed with the potential to break out.  In this  list alone, I look at names like Reyes, Fenter, Rom, Curran, Sedlock, Encarnacion, etc and I see a true testament to our depth.  Our system is jam-packed with B-C prospects; it really is great depth and equal to any MLB team's overall depth IF we have the right PD system in place.  When I speak of depth I understand that we lack in top tier prospects, but I think we are going to address that with some great draft positions and an intl market commitment, but that isn't the point here. Our depth is ideal IF we sign/find and develop those 5-10 top tier prospects that make a system elite, like an ATL.

The point here is that with a great focus on Player Development, we should be able to get an extra 5-10 prospects to peak out of this overall impressive and deep list of mid-hype prospects.  If we add those 5-10 top tier prospects in the next 3 years and we get and extra 5-10 guys to develop out of our impressive depth, we can be elite within 5 years.
