Well, I saw it and I am sure you did too if you watched the AS game this past day...the debut comercial of the 24/7 baseball channel...I guess I need to ask my cable company the dreadful question "well, are you gonna carry it or what?" I can only guess that since unless you have Sat TV or FIOS, you can't get the NFL TV down here the baseball channel will likely follow suit...

Sooooo..."I want my, I want my I want my MLB TV (or what ever they call it)..."

I watched at a bar last night and I must of missed it; when is it going to launch?

I believe 1/1/09

Here's what Wiki has to say:

MLB Network is a television specialty channel, primarily owned by Major League Baseball, set to launch on January 1, 2009 into over 50,000,000 homes in the United States.[1] Comcast, DirecTV, Time Warner and Cox Communications have minority ownership of the new network, with MLB retaining a controlling two-thirds share.[2] The channel is building its state-of-the-art headquarters in Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood. Profitability is expected by the end of 2009, according to industry sources. And by 2015, revenue from cable subscriber fees and advertising is projected to soar beyond $210 million, with a net value easily exceeding $1 billion.[1]

MLB is the last major North American professional sports league to launch its own network. NBA TV dates back to 1999, the NFL Network to 2003, and the NHL Network to 2005. However, MLBN will have the most households of these four networks when it launches, largely because of the financial participation of the cable systems.

Tony Pettitti, former executive producer of CBS Sports, was recently named the network's first president.

Content

MLB network expects to carry 26 live baseball games in 2009 and Saturday night is the most likely timeslot these games will air in.[3] Other early programming will include portions of the 2009 World Baseball Classic as well as highlights, studio programming, international and development league games, and archival material. Also in the works is a nightly news and highlight show patterned after ESPN's Baseball Tonight.[1]

Carriage

The network has signed contracts with 36 cable and satellite carriers.[3] In a deal that may be copied by other sports league owned channels, MLB tied carriage of the MLB Network to the ability to carry the popular out of market MLB Extra Innings package. In return, cable and satellite providers were offered a minority share of the new network.

It is going to be much more available than NFL Network. That is the result of the ugly standoff between cable companies and MLB over Extra Innings.

I have to say, though, as someone who has the NFL Network, the NBA Network and the NHL Network, I don't expect to be watching the MLB Network all that much.

Well that is good news...not a stone cold lead pipe lock down deal but good news none the less...if we had Comcast or one of the other cable companys noted I'd feel a bit better but Bright House (the local company) is a strange bird

My parents have the NFL network and I watch some of it when I visit but I think I would invest in the MLB channel for the same reason I get MLB Extra Innings and XM radio...I can't get enough baseball and the local watering holes normally don't carry anything but local games..

Man, I would love to see some NPB action. I've been hoping for some aired games for a while, I really hope they can broadcast a few. Larry Bigbie and Lew Ford in the same game! :laughlol:

Does anyone know who will work on this channel?

I think I heard once that some of those on the MLB-TV (internet) would be on the new channel...nothing to verify that...since it's still some months out I am sure more will be let known as we get closer (I expect we will see something on MLB.com or maybe a specific web page to the channel)
