Terps vs Illinois @MSG

Well this is the first time I've been upset with this team. That first half was some of the ugliest Turgeon-ball turn overfest, lack of energy basketball I've seen from this team. Turgeon apparently worked his team hard this week and if that first half was any indication, he wore them out because they looked awful outside of the first five minutes of the game.

I really don't know what to say other then that was awfully disappointing first half.

This team has no energy or heart today. Complete trash effort. Turnover fest, lack of offensive identity, but worse of all was a complete lack of energy.

Pretty typical of a Turgeon team though to get rank and then start to come up small. Don't know what Turgeon does or whether he cranks up the practice and wear them out, but this is an embarrassing effort from this squad.

Total, and utter embarrassment. This is why you never get excited over a Turgeon-led team. They will always shrink when their expectations rise. Getting their butts whooped by Illinois? What a joke.

Just a ridiculous, turnover fest, lack of energy effort from the five minute mark in the first half on.

I have to wonder whether Fernando is sick or something because he doesn't look himself at all, especially effort and energy wise.

20 Maryland Turnovers with a 1:10 left. That my friends is an embarrassing, ridiculous number.

First really bad game they've had that I've seen.  Outplayed, outhustled and outcoached.  No ball security and horrible transition defense.

I've liked the rotations that Turgeon has been using and felt everyone has known their role pretty well.  Today it seemed like we went up, got frustrated by some calls at the end of the first half and lost our composure.  In the second half we went small and played the game Illinois wanted us to.  I guess we sat Jalen Smith for a while because he's bad at perimeter defense and we were getting killed on transition threes, but as a result we had lineups out there that haven't played much together.  It made for lots of lazy passes and complaining to the refs instead of hustling back on D.  Very hard to watch.

I wonder if Eric Ayala is playing hurt from his hip injury, because he's been terrible this week.  Today he played about as bad as you can play.

You can't give up 48 points in the 2nd half to a 5-14 team.  Let's hope today was an outlier, because that was unwatchable after a certain point.

Will just copy and paste what I wrote a week ago:

"...seems whenever we get ranked or start feeling good is when there's a regression or dry spell."

Classic Turgeon. No matter how much talent, they can never sustain a high level of play. Hopefully this is just a hiccup.

It really is a concern that his teams play so poorly down the stretch or anytime they start to get ranked. It has been a staple of his teams when he's actually had some success. Maybe it's because he always has a young team because he's not able to consistently recruit solid 4-year guys or get transfers in that help his team with these problems.

Obviously last week was an awful week, and hopefully the team will be able to bounce back a bit, but they look like a young team that was playing tight and out of control once again, and those are two staples of Turgeon teams.
