Other than personal pride what is his motivation? Davis gets paid no matter what if he doesn’t get suspended.

He doesn't get paid if he doesn't put it the effort to be the best player he can be, whatever that may be in 2019 and for the following four seasons.  Also personal pride is a pretty powerful motivator to just about everybody I've ever met who performs for a living.  There's no reason to believe Chris Davis is any different.  I'm not optimistic that he's fixable, but I think it's time to put to rest the notion that he doesn't care.

You lost me.  I can't think of any examples of a ML player with a guaranteed contract not getting paid because of lack of effort.  I can even think of a couple of examples of players admitting they weren't trying.

Davis’ first meeting with the new Orioles regime.

I mean Ponson hit a Judge and he still got paid.

I always thought that was the most weirdest, random thing.  Like, what are the chances of you hitting a person on a beach and that person turning out to be a judge?  You'd have a better chance of hitting the Powerball.

I figured he hit a bunch that weren't judges and we just never heard about it.

Like how Kang has 3 DUI's in Korea.  I can't imagine how many times he must have driven drunk for them to actually have charged him three times.

I'm certain he's never going to be good or average again.

He might be less bad.

Has there been a bigger turnaround in baseball history? I know Dunn came back to respectability after his terrible year but it's not like he had back to back awful years like Davis has.  He had .800 OPS seasons sandwiched around his terrible one.

With a healthy player?  Not that I know of.

Uniform Player's Contract 7(b) (1) (2) (3)

2017-2021 Basic Agreement Article IX A-C

Some termination pay would be involved, but not the full contract.  Obviously conditions would apply, but MLB contracts are contingent on more than just having a pulse.
