The rust is showing in his pitch efficiency. In 2012, he needed only 23 pitches over two innings to seal the victory. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS201205060.shtml

Today it was 22 pitches in one inning. I wondered if Hyde considered whether throwing that many pitches was a risk injury-wise.

Would the insurance not kick in then?

Velo down from Boston.  I think we all should have some concerns.

2012: averaged 87.9, topped at 91.5.   Threw in one 83.8 mph splitter.   http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?s_type=3&sp_type=1&batterX=0&year=2012&month=5&day=6&pitchSel=448801.xml&game=gid_2012_05_06_balmlb_bosmlb_1/&prevGame=gid_2012_05_06_balmlb_bosmlb_1/

2019: FB averaged 84.4 mph, topped at 86.3.    Threw in four curve balls and two sliders for good measure.   He’s been working on his repertoire!   http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php?month=4&day=20&year=2019&game=gid_2019_04_20_minmlb_balmlb_2%2F&pitchSel=448801&prevGame=gid_2019_04_20_minmlb_balmlb_2%2F&prevDate=420&league=mlb

Could they? I doubt it.

Yea, far more likely that he’s insured as a baseball player and all clauses are tied to performance of baseball activities. Not really good for either side to get overly prescriptive.

Better argument from insurer would be that any pitching injury wouldn’t prevent him from playing 1b/dh as he normally does.

Liked that smile Schoop gave his former teammate after that blast.

Seems there was an interview with Davis a year or two ago and he was talking about the fun he used to have with Schoop in the clubhouse, etc. He said “It’s like having a large baby in the clubhouse.”

That’s what immediately came to mind when  Schoop homered off of him. He gave up a dinger to his large baby.
