I'm loving every minute of it. Harper had dreams of playing for the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, hell even the Mets.

And now he is stuck settling for a team where the media and fans will light him up the moment he falls into a slump.

I think that's where Manny lucked out.  Could you imagine how the New York media would tear him up?  One on field incident and he would never hear the end of it.  And if Manny chose to respond on air on in person, it would get ugly quick.

If Manny doesn’t mature he is definitely better off in San Diego. I think he wanted the most money (who doesn’t lol) over winning and you can’t beat the weather.

Even in Baltimore Manny got treated with kid gloves for some of his antics.

I was surprised at Manny's destination, perhaps it's good, but it certainly is far away from the national attention he seemed to crave. I hope he embraces his new location and gives to the community. I always admire players like Jones, Markakis, Mora and others that give back time and energy. I never saw that in Manny.

Maybe Manny was the type who liked to keep his charity quiet like Eddie Murray, but I seriously doubt it.

Manny did quite a bit for his charities.  Gave back more than most under 25 year olds.

MLB when you sign a big contract makes you pick a charity to do work for  It is in your contract They figure that way the player and team look good. Some players do other charity work separate from the charity of their choice. Many work with veterans and service members. O'Day,Cobb,Scherzer to name a few.

    • I think it’s like when our fans are terrified because a team brings up a spot starter from AAA and we fear they are going to turn into Cy Young.
    • “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.” — A Bartlett Giamatti https://mason.gmu.edu/~rmatz/giamatti.html

By any measure, Cowser is leading AL rookies in WAR, and it’s not that close. “

    • Every year at the end of the season, I feel a little melancholy. For me, the end of summer is not the start of school or the arrival of fall, but the end of baseball season. Today is the last day of a long song, and I will miss it. I know we have at least four more days, but those are in a different category, although I will miss that too when it ends. During the darkest days of the season, I posted frequently that the worst day of baseball is still baseball. When the Os played terrible, I would go focus on the Brewers or the A’s or Mariners(who were almost as frustrating as the Os) and follow along with former Orioles, rooting for all of them. That will all stop by tonight, and I will miss it until next February, when pitchers and catchers report. If I’m still here, I’ll be here.    Go Os…
    • We have to wait and see. But it shouldn’t matter as you have to beat whomever you play.
