FWIW, on his podcast, Curt Schilling said he heard Harper had 10/$330M on the table from Philly, and that was before the Vegas trip.  Between that and the Nats rejected offer you have to shake your head at their strategy.  Reconcile that with talk of a short deal with, first it was SF,  and now L.A. for a high AAV.

I usually turn the channel anytime I see Jon Heymans face appear on the tv. I don't follow him on social media either. He's a Boras pawn, and really doesn't add anything significant. 

And if SD is in on Harper now...no team in baseball can cry poor.

In other news, Aaron Hicks just got $70m from the Yankees. A 28 year old career .236 hitter. I know he's an excellent fielder, but $70m?

I feel ya, but 3.9 WAR in 88 games in '17,  and then 4.7 last year.

I feel like most guys that peak late also decline early but the Yanks can afford to write off 10M a year if they have to.

I don't think WAR is a "joke", but I do think that it overstates defensive value in comparison to offense.

Just makes it more expensive to try and keep a team together for teams that can't afford the huge payrolls.

Maybe a joke isn't the right way to describe it. But I don't think it's the end all be all of how much money a player is worth. And there's no way any GM is ranking Hicks right after Machado and Harper.

He's also getting paid a third what Machado is for fewer years.

Which is one of the reasons he got a much smaller contract.
