I'm impressed with Smith. He wants to play for this team. He earned a starting spot in our OF.

We cite the Fox example all the time, but the thing is, Buck didn’t really give Fox a chance to try to carry that momentum into April.   Fox didn’t play in the first 7 games, and had only 27 April at bats.    Bottom line, Buck hated Fox’s defense and that overrode playing the hot hand.    I’ll always wonder what would have happened if Buck had given Fox 75-100 PA in April.    Obviously he would have returned to his level eventually, but I wouldn’t have been too surprised if he’d gotten off to a good start.
