The team to watch the first half of the season will be Norfolk, where the new offensive core (minus Hays) will develop together. Perhaps some benefit will be derived from their having played together once they reach the show.

Looks like Elias did a hard reset. Definitely not rushing guys. Emphasis on AAA seasoning. Of course ST was fun, but what’s the point of not utilizing AAA to develop our guys?  We’re looking like a 100 loss team easily.

The Sisco decision even makes sense. He will be out of options next year. Why bounce him around all this season if he struggles?

We will see a very much different OD roster next year.

We're liable to see very different lineups by the end of this season.

Going to be quite the blow if Norfolk isn't a competitive team.

Not sure there's much to be done about that until Hall and Rodriguez get there. Mediocre pitching tends to produce mediocre results. Could still help to have Diaz, Mountcastle, Sisco, Santander and Stewart playing together in a lower-pressure situation.

Good post and I agree. He's already mentioned once that some guys were rushed, so he clearly believes development was botched the last couple of years. And who can argue?

I like the method of resetting everything. Get all these guys back in the minor leagues. Pump the brakes a little. Let the system take a breath and allow the data and the new coaching staff to percolate (heh) through the minors.

This team won't win 50 games. And be dull while not doing it.Absolutely the least interesting team we've had in about a decade..or more.

It would be hard to find a less interesting MLB team ever.  Even the 62 Mets had some good players including a future Hall of Famer player and a future Hall of Famer manager.

The 62 team was a hodgepodge of players.

Most played at replacement level or lower.

Several aging veterans,

They performed worse than their Pythagorean prediction.

It will be “interesting” to see if the Orioles have about the same percentage of players with negative WAR as that Mets team. Heck, The 2018 Orioles May hold the record.

I’ve been almost gleefully preaching that the Orioles need to lose a ton and “win” that first pick of the 2020 draft. But Elias seems to have really out done himself and constructed a roster that will not only play horrible baseball, but also be incredibly boring. I think the only positive I can come up with is that the prospects may largely replace these goobers late this year and they will not experience being a sacrificial offering to the baseball gods that  the opening day roster is going to be.
