Oakland lost one pro team to Vegas;  if anyone moves it should be them.   The sport that once banned Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle because of their association with casinos is now open for a team in Vegas?

Pete Rose lives in Las Vegas too. Guessing he could cause quite the scene if he decides to start attending games, or set up shop next to the ballpark and sell his autograph.

There is a huge difference between wanting the franchise sold, and allowing the new owner to move it.   I see no benefit to MLB with the latter.  Camden Yards is  the best ballpark there is.

This whole division conversation amuses me.

Just move them into another division.

Angelos was a crummy owner on the baseball side of things - but he's a big reason the Orioles are in Baltimore with a nice, beautiful stadium downtown. He loves Baltimore and he used his financial power to keep them here. He should be applauded for that. I believe that his sons have his same dedication to Baltimore and its community - but there's questions if they can even hang onto a team once their parents pass away.

This is well said.

Bruce "Burghandy" discussing anything with an attorney is hilarious to me.  It's sheer sensationalism.

I respect what Peter Angelos was able to do with the MASN and the deal that was cut, but it was prime to be litigated.  Did anyone think for a minute that the owners of the Nats would settle for being the second fiddle team in the region?  We ARE going to get the short end of the stick on this in the end.  I don't think there is any doubt.  DC is the larger market AND there is likely a grudge of some kind between MLB and the Angelosii.

It's crazy to me that all of the area the O's once held down into NC is now DC.  But if this is accurate and MLB sees it THIS way, we will soon be a very small market team.  I have no clue as to how the lines could be drawn differently, but it would seem that maybe our farm towns could be included in a swath to our region.  Yet losing DC is biggest loss, obviously, and there's a big part of me that thinks that we should receive some grandfathered benefit for a long time.  But will we?  We usually get the short end of the stick.

What is that map?  It's not the official MLB media territory/blackout map, because that one has all kinds of overlap.

I don’t assume that.  If anything, I think they are very different, which is why I am actually optimistic about the future of the team and think they “get it” when it comes to needing to do a full rebuild and seeing it through.  I just mean that I think they truly care about Baltimore like their father does, and wouldn’t want to see the team be moved (or move it themselves).  Money talks, but if the team were to move, I just can’t see them being the ones to do it considering they are from Baltimore and are very philanthropic when it comes to helping the City and community at large.  That is the one positive thing that we could always say about the Angelos family, despite their very poor track record as owners.

I think the sons are more likely to move team than Peter was,

Anyway if the team did move maybe we could get the A’s or Rays to come here.  Otherwise perhaps an MLS team would be awesome.

I'm not sure how much logic enters into these kinds of feuds and their results.

It would not at all surprise me to see MLB pressure the Angelos family to sell the club to an interest in Las Vegas or Montreal or somewhere else as a way of ending the MASN controversy, and then, several years later, give the Rays permission to move to Baltimore. The Rays territory wold be tiny, but they'd be better off than they are now and they'd have a great ballpark to play in.

In today's click bait world I don't believe much of what I hear online and in the Media. If MLB did try to adversely affect the Franchise that would be grounds for another lawsuit that could drag on for another decade. Just settle the MASN issue then move on to Ownership transfer. If not then sell them. I'm sure a few local buyers could be found.

Manfred is a total scumbag but I really don't see how one could justify moving the Orioles to Vegas instead of the A's, Rays or Marlins. The O's lost an obscenely high number of games last year and had a 50 win difference between them and Oakland and STILL had better attendance and TV ratings. Letting Camden Yards rot would be the single biggest travesty in sports.

I don’t understand what benefit MASN is to Orioles if they have to pay fair market vale for rights.

Because MASN is still profitable and the O's get a larger portion of the profits.  Paying fair market value for the rights does not mean that MASN has to pay so much that it turns into a break-even corporation.  Plus they can pay themselves a salary out of the MASN pot of money before determining the profits that are to be shared.

Just googled mlb map of market lines...  Both have the Balto/Washington areas overlap on yours and mine when put together.  But the issue is what areas are really whose in the end?  It seems likely that DC would be arguing that the pic I posted is what they are after given they are the largest market.  Could be just Seat Geeks interpretation of where allegiances lie???  Idk.  But its a scary thought we would lose all of that area now "common" area...

A lawyer on the Bruce Cunningham show just said that Vegas has made a strong offer to the O's.  Hope that goes nowhere.

The 105.7 sports director has apologized for spreading rumors with no basis in fact.

Well word is MLB will not allow the sons to take ownership of the team under any circumstances.

Where exactly is that word coming from?    The only thing I’ve seen in print is speculation from journalist Thom Loverro, who doesn’t have any specific basis for that speculation from what I’ve seen.
