I realize that, but that doesn't mean he's still a target for MacPhail. We don't know what his thoughts are about Donald after receiving those scouting reports.

Thats true. We don't but we can assume that a well performing, future games selection, Olympian SS is probably a safe bet to be a target.

We can go back and forth on this, but Donald isn't a sure-fire bet to stay at shortstop...and I don't know how much that matters to MacPhail. He should still be a target (hopefully), but where does he fall on the list of targets?

Besides, my main point when I first mentioned Donald was in response to Peace's question about why should MacPhail be calling anyone. I would think that MacPhail is working the phones both ways...not just sitting back and waiting for his phone to ring.

I have faith in Andy I just hope we hear some development soon.

Who is regarded as a better prospect, Donald at SS, or Emilio Bonaficio at second base? My memory is often suspect, but I seem to recall that the Nationals were severely criticized here for trading Jon Rauch for the "best" 2b prospect they were offered, rather than holding out for a better package. Yet it seems some on this board, at least those that would trade Sherrill even-up for Donald, want the Os to do the exact same thing.

    • I think you'd see a much stronger correlation to how they were rated in the minors vs. draft position. Westburg has been treated similarly to Cowser and Kjerstad. Adley, Gunnar and Holliday were all consensus #1 prospects and have been given pretty much immediate every day player status.
    • Game ball or the equivalent of hockey star(s) of the game for me: Suarez — all of those zero’s on the road, gets my game ball. Kimbrel is my runner-up. I know striking out Trout with the bases loaded is the job, but it ain’t easy. Cowser - Honorable Mention. I’m still not 100 percent in on the Milkman nickname, but he sure is fun to watch.
    • Yeah - I was thinking Beavers could fill that spot, but it seems he is more suited for a corner outfield position, if he makes the bigs at all.
    • We have all this year and next if it’s needed.   No rush.  No hurry.
    • Kjesrtad was Elias's #1 pick in 2020 draft and #2 overall, so Elias saw something great in him.  Can you all imagine how powerful the O's will be if Holliday starts to hit and Kjerstadt hits like he did in the minors, Kjesrtad did good when he was called up in 2023.  They will be the Baltimore Bombers!
    • I'm not crushing Santander either, but he's a career .765 OPS guy. It was .797 last year. His only year over .800 was the Covid year. He plays average defense. Not a butcher, but not exactly rangy out there. Long story short, I think you can get similar power with more OBP from Kjerstad and Cowser with similar defense for Kjerstad and better for Cowser. So yes, I'd say they'll be better than Santander.
    • Can we get Buster Olney, talking heads, and various posters to look in the mirror for their ridiculing Elias' "hoarding" prospects? The strategy has always been about raising the competitive floor/ceiling while managing risk like a portfolio manager.  Seeking alpha while managing beta is the goal.  Sig's purpose is the quantify. And yet we still have people tossing out trade proposals and extensions and unhealthy FA pursuits because they know better and moving prospects to other positions.  It's fun to speculate but it's foolish to present it as an absolute.
