Wow!!! This is one of the moxt scathing articles I have ever read about a ballplayer. Apparnetly, manny is just as selfish and self absorb when it comes to off field activities as he is with his on field play. Why do people like this guy?

Because he's the best right-handed hitter of his generation and could hold his own with the best hitters of all time.

I think he's mostly right about Manny's character and the mockery he makes of the game, but I don't necessarily agree that someone who doesn't visit sick kids or wounded soldiers is automatically a bad person. Sure it would be a nice gesture to do so but it doesn't make you bad not to. And he's basically condemning the Sawx organization for catering to the antics of Ramirez, but where was this article before Manny was traded and he was helping to win two WS this decade? All was well with the world then I guess? GD entitled Red Sox fans. I don't like Manny as much as the next guy and I think he's a thug who's antics are terrible for the game and for youngsters watching it, but it's a little two faced to praise this guy and treat him like a prima donna when he's helping your organization win the WS for the first time in 80+ years and then blast him on the way out the door. But it's just typical for this new RED SOX NATION.

I agree 100% with you ,dude. I actually took the time to create an account an write a short response to GC:

Hey, tough guy. It's pretty easy to fire shots at someone from behind your keyboard. I'm not defending Manny's many shortcomings, but something tells me you don't really know what the life of a superstar is like. I bet you can walk out of your house and go to the grocery store or to the mall in peace without a million greedy, ravenous fans asking for a picture, or an autograph, or a high five, or whatever. Manny came to Boston, and for 7.5 years, and was THE cog around which 2 World Championships were built. He eased the collective pain of a city that had been under World Series arrest for 86 years. Say what you want about the guy now that you have an entire continent between you two, but remember: it's a pretty long fall from your high horse.

Last time I knew anything about it, the Herald was Boston's rag paper. It aimed to get it's blue-collar audience in an emotion-based tizzy. Dunno if that's still true, but judging by this article, it sure seems like it. What we have here is a hatchet job because a star player decided that leaving BOS was fine with him, that Fenway wasn't right next door to the Pearly Gates.

Manny has issues. So does the writer. Notice how he doesn't say who else didn't walk to the tent or go to the hospital. He said "most" players did. He didn't say "every single Red Sox player and coach except for Manny did". If he was really as outraged by that as he pretends to be, how come he's not naming the other guys who didn't do those 2 specific things? This is a hatchet job to stir up anger-thumping about Manny leaving, plain and simple.

Mission accomplished. His article is on a Baltimore Orioles board and people are going out of their way to register and respond. Well done sir...

Without Manny, Boston probably still doesn't have a title, let alone two.

Did it end on a down note? Sure did...but IMO, Boston fans should put a smile on their face and thank Manny for everything he did for them in helping them break an 86 year drought.

Agreed. Without Manny; Boston fans are still talking about the curse.

Manny's production over the 8 years with the Sox is unmatched by almost any other player during those 8 years. All Red Sox fans should be happy with what Manny provided.

And the person who called him a thug... I think you are extremely off base with that statement. He might not be your prototypical hard-nose player, like Cal, but he kept the game fun and you can tell when he is playing he is having fun. I dont remember Manny ever getting arrested or being in the news for anything outlandish, other than for on the field type stuff.

It's beyond lame for anyone in Boston to bad mouth Manny. He's a terrific hitter, one of the best any of us has ever seen. It always seemed like "Manny being Manny" was one of those quirky fun little things that everyone puts up with because he's such a great offensive player. He always seems to have fun playing the game (the high five at Oriole Park was classic), and his "antics" are harmless for the most part. People are making him out to be Albert Belle because of this one incident with the traveling secretary, which he apologized for.

How quickly people forget, its a shame. I feel like when he returns to Fenway to play, people will forget about the last two weeks, and he'll get a huge ovation, which he will most certainly deserve.

He may have apologized for it but then he tried to stick to the FO by taking three called strikes in a pinch hit AB against the Yankees.

Yea, probably a better way to make a statement I'll agree. However it doesn't change his legacy on the field. He screwed up, not that big a deal to me. If we can forgive Brian Roberts, they can forgive a guy who helped them win two World Series.
