I don’t think the issue is confidence with Givens....unless he really does turn into a pumpkin when things get mildly leveraged. Even if that is the case, I am not sure how keeping him stress free helps.

Givens looked good in the inning prior and he threw just 10 pitches no problem going to givens for another few hitters.   He doesn’t have anyone he trust so if guy looks good he seems to want to keep them in because he doesn’t trust the pen much.
