Montanez heading to the show

I realize that there is a slim chance that Montanez is going to be a fixture here...but isn't it at all possible that he may have been put at the right place at the right time and something clicked with him? I know its unlikely, but isn't it at all possible that the guy could be a decent major leaguer?

I'm not talking about Ken Griffey Jr. I'm talking about a guy who could take Payton's place on this team as the 4th outfielder next season.

This is a good thing ...yes.

Montanez isn't part of the future of this team in anything more than a bench role...Reimold should be getting the at bats at this level this year, not Montanez.

Yea. Just ask the Cardinals where they'd be without Ryan Ludwick. He's 30 and just this year put it together. Former first rounder. Career disappointment.

There's no harm in giving him a shot here.....just no pleasing some people.

It's possible, but it also isn't likely. It will probably be moot anyway since I'm not expecting much PT in his time here.

Which is a shame. For some reason the Orioles hate players that can mash that are average to below average fielders, but love players that can't hit a lick that are mostly average fielders. Knott, House, Salazar..and most likely now Montanez.

We need some decent bench options and right now we just don't have them.

What Major league teams are they mashing for now?

Agree that its not likely, but I think Montanez could probably put up similar numbers to Payton given the number of AB's received...and do it much cheaper.

Ludwick's minor league numbers are much better than Montanez's.

I'm not against bringing up Montanez, he deserves a look, I;'m just againdt him getting it before Reimold.

I just think the fact that some people think Montanez could have a future with this club as anything other than a 4th OF is ridiculous.

Not even close. Pena at age 22 and 23, at AA and AAA had a .944 and .949 OPS respectively. Montanez at age 26 with 4000 plate appearances finally puts up .986 OPS.

Which is why I stated "be optimistic." More than likely, he will not make it but to out and out discount it when maybe it did "click" is using history to COMPLETELY predict the future. The guy is 26... had a chance at the Triple Crown in AA...give him a chance...

Ryan Ludwick had success at AAA at age 23 and 24, posting a .912 and .927 OPS. Montanez at age 26 is finally posting a .900+ OPS at AA.

If it works, fine... but I'm not breaking out the good stuff to celebrate just yet.

Now, i don't mind Montanez up here...Much rather watch him than Payton, Redman or someone else we could have brought up...besides Reimold.

They both should be up here but Reimold should be the one starting on an everyday basis in LF while Jones is out.

I'm confused. Who do you want to be playing CF now?

    • I would feel better about this game if he would foul off a few close ones with 2 strikes-like Kjerstad did last night-instead of just watching them go by. Take those pitches on the outside to the opposite field.  If your expecting 1 pitch but get another, fight it off.
    • His path to staying in baseball is as a utility player. The more positions he can play, the more likely he is to stay in the league. Good for him. But I don't anticipate him back in Baltimore. We saw them go Kjerstad when Hays even though the team is very lefty heavy. With Mateo getting looks in CF and Cowser able to play there for a bit, there really isn't any role that he's next in line for (or even 2nd or third in line). Even learning 2B doesn't get him in a next in line position given Norby.
    • In my book, he’s had two outings that were awful and three that were decent, including yesterday’s.  My guess is that if he has a decent outing on the 27th, the O’s won’t go through gymnastics to try to find a way to extend his rehab, even though his ERA has been a train wreck.
    • Why is Tony still batting 4th?  Move Westy to #3 and Mounty to #4; or vice versa but good grief Hyde... come on.... Tony should be down at the 7/8 slot.
    • Holliday looked a lot more confident last night and his defense is improving.  I don't think he's "getting better", I think he's finally relaxing and his natural ability that he's worked on over many, many years is taking over.  It's like he's been thinking too much about every action you take while swinging the bat vs. just swinging the bat and his muscle memory taking over.  I'm predicting him heating up a little bit.  It might only be to hit .200 w/ little power for the next week, but should be enough to keep him up.  The line drive (if weak) right at the pitcher was another encouraging sign that his timing is getting on track.
    • Especially on an away day game after a night game.
    • It would probably be better to give Adley a day off when we are facing a righty considering how many LHH that we have. Anyway, Adley is on a roll right now, so I'm not sure you want to take his hot bat out of the lineup.
