How about just 3 fouls total and you're out?

I’m totally against this.   It would skew the game way in favor of the pitcher.

Back to the scenario of fouling off three pitches once there are two strikes, I went through yesterday’s box scores on BB-ref, and found at least 26 instances in 14 games (I might have missed a couple).    Of the 26, only 5 ended in a strikeout. So, if yesterday was typical, you’d be adding about 1.5 strikeouts a game (.75 per team).    Sorry, but I don’t need that.

One of the at bats from yesterday was from Nick Markakis, who got in an 0-2 hole, fouled off the next three pitches, then homered.

Just as a slight update on the 2019 Regular Season

There were 186,517 plate appearances in 2019

Of these Plate Appearances

9,824 were ended with 7 pitches thrown

3960 were ended with 8 pitches thrown

1507 were ended with 9 pitches thrown

888 were ended with 10 or more pitches thrown

That is a total of 16,179 that went beyond the Plate Appearance ending on 6 pitches or less thrown.

Interesting.   For perspective, there are 2,430 games in a major league season, minus any rainouts that aren’t made up.    And 2,395 at bats of 9+ pitches.    So, one at bat per game (both teams combined) that reaches 9 pitches.   About 6.7 at bats per game exceeding 6 pitches.
