Trout has better plate discipline than Pujols did (though Pujols’ was very good).    While in St. Louis, if you omit intentional walks,  Pujols walked in 10.1% of his PA, whereas Trout walks in 13.5% of his PA.   By the way, Pujols was walked intentionally 3.7% of the time in St. Louis, compared to 1.9% for Trout.    So, I’d bet that a lot more of Pujols’ “unintentional” walks were the result of pitching around him as opposed to him having a great batting eye, as compared to Trout.
