That is pretty cool. Most young men would be so wrapped up in themselves and their contract negotiations that they would never take the time to do something like this. To me this shows that he has a lot of character and it makes me want to root for him even more.

Matusz is setting us up with the change-up and then will throw the fastball right by us ;).

I'm just kidding - just had to throw that in because I'm excited to see him do that to the American League opponents in 2010.

Message to Brian/Bryan (forget which one) - you keep loving the fans and you'll more than make up for any lost pennies in your initial contract with future endorsement deals. Besides - you'll receive a lot of love back - and money can't buy that.

There seems to be some validity to the Aaron Crowe statement. But the Nats are to blame. In the last 2 days they have signed 3 high level round picks and overpaid all of them for their slotting...some reported as much as $200K more. So Crowe sees this why wouldn't he wait. The Nats will break and thus break every othr teams banks in the process.

Through the Hangout, Brian Matusz speaks directly to Orioles fans regarding his current negotiations.

Business is, unfortunately, an important part of sports. In times like these I believe it's important that we as fans recognize that this business element is a part of the process. I'm confident that a resolution will be worked out and Brian will begin his career as a Baltimore Oriole in short order.

To Brian directly:

I look forward to seeing you in uniform, be it in Winter Ball, or even next year if necessary. I've read numerous articles regarding your character and come away impressed that you'll not only add a quality arm to our rotation in the future, but will become just as good of a person in our community. So... welcome in advance. :)

One of the holdups may be that Washington draft pick Aaron Crow, who was the second college pitcher selected, is reportedly trying to set a record with his bonus and Agar and Matusz don't want to be undersold. However, Scouting Director Joe Jordan told the Hangout that Crow's situation had no bearing on Matusz.
I'm sorry, but I do not get this game of chicken they seem to be playing. If Matusz signs first, then he sets the market for Crow instead of it working the other way around. Do we not know the market value for our pick? Give it to him. If we have offered it and the agent is holding out, the latter is an idiot.
