Calling Elias incompetent is unfair

Exactly. Which means 2 things: you get what you can for him, and so far, that hasn't worked but still might by 1:00 Monday............and............if you can't trade him, you don't bring him back.

Nope it means ownership is only concerned about not spending any money at all.

I have a couple posters on /ignore that neg rep me.  I'm not certain that should be a thing.  But I've started posting a bit on Reddit and it does wonders for building up thick skin for downvotes.

I post on BSL and RSR ... The later you need really thick skin. Your rep use to have weight on the rep that you added/deducted on someone. I liked that system a lot better. It made posters like the one I mentioned pretty irrelevant.

Lets have a little fun.... If Villar would play this season for $1 would you want him on the team?

The answer should be Yes and I just don't know what to say about the bolded part. I want as many good baseball players on my team as I can afford.

Villar will still be a good ball player in 2022, is fun to watch now, and seems like a good guy.

@atomic is right! its all about being cheap

It used to be that way here until the most recent reset.   It was kinda gross the amount of rep power some of us had.

I topped out at 19 points of rep power.

Without question you bring him back at any figure where he's a tradeable asset, which likely means what.......$4M, $5M?

At what point will other teams NOT trade for him?

I think maybe the flaw in you argument is the idea that Villar would agree to a figure low enough to make him a tradeable asset. I'm sure Elias has approached his agent. And I think we can see the result of those conversations.

Even if it was just broken into 6 factors

1) Gods (Frobby, and you Included) & Mods (10 POINTS)

2) Guys like me 10,000 posts or more            (8 POINTS)

3) Guys with 5,000-9999 posts                        (6 POINTS)

4) Guys with 2500-4999 posts                         (4 POINTS)

5) Guys with 01 - 2499 posts                            (2 POINTS)

6) Non Members  (regardless of post count) (1 POINT)

It would encourage people to contribute rather than just being Rep bullies!

Well you can get there by agreeing to $7-8 million. Then if you trade him before the season eat $2 million. If you trade him midseason he's only owed $4 million ...If you can get a better return eat half of that.... Who cares we have plenty of available payroll and we need talent

Yes.

How many parties does it take to agree?

At least 2 ...The Orioles and a trade partner.

I just think it makes more sense than the DFA gamble

What I meant was you said "agree to 7-8 M".

That would require Villar to agree. I'd guess Elias made those offers, especially as Villar played better and better. I'd also expect an agent to say "no thanks, we're headed to a $10M arb figure".

So how do you convince the agent he's wrong? You outright the guy and let him measure how many teams are running to trade for him.

Ok got it..... But we dont know if Elias has spoken to Villar or his agent.

Maybe Villar wouldve signed a team friendly deal a year ago. Maybe he would've accepted $7-8 million now if we offered it.

We might find out Monday. If he's not claimed by 1:00, we have until 8:00 to work out a deal. Then Villar is gone.

The difference in "up until now" and Monday would be his agent seeing the market isn't as robust as they want it to be.

As I mentioned, I'd like to see him get extended as he's currently my favorite player. I like the hard nosed hustle style of play!

If he's traded for pieces for the future I can live with that also

First off, you have no idea if that money will be reinvested back into other facets of the organization. And paying Villar would have been a waste of money. This team is going to lose with or without Villar. He has zero value on a team destined for last place (by design) in 2020. And until you show me one tangible rumor of a trade offer that was made for Villar you're not going to convince me that there was a market for him. Villar is not a good player and based on past performance there's a 50% chance he flops next year. Let someone else deal with that risk / headache.

Yeah, I mean, who thinks a switch hitting 28-year old 4-win middle infielder is good? I mean every team has two of these guys right? I mean, he's only been worth 6.2 WAR in his last 216 games. Clearly he should have zero value. I mean typically 28-year old switch hitter with speed and power fall off the cliff when they turn 29.

Man, the more i think about it, I see you point. Villar is clearly not a good player.

    • The Achilles heel for this team is going to be the unit that doesn't step up in the postseason. I can easily see scenarios where: the bullpen is hot and provides good performances but the offense sputters and isn't clutch the offense comes up big but the bullpen blows games late starting pitching tosses some clunkers (not really likely with Burnes and Eflin) and they can't recover the defense sucks and gives opponents extra outs to work with, blowing games open when the bullpen or SP would have been able to escape and continue We've seen all of these units falter at one point or another during this season.  We've also seen all of these units perform very well at different times throughout the season.  So, we'll see what turns out to be the Achilles heel for the Orioles in the playoffs starting next week.
    • I agree I missed the mark on a correct forum, and ask a moderator to please relocate to Rants as that game annoyed me yesterday. I appreciate the strong moderators here and know I'm not one of them.     Sorry for making it worse at a tough moment.
    • Nail hit on head. It really comes down to the offense in the playoffs for us. I think our pitching is good enough overall especially the starters. Shaky sometimes sure, but they can hold their own most of the time. If we don't bring our "A" hitting game in the playoffs we won't go far.
    • The bullpen has warts for sure, but if this offense doesn't figure out how to hit good pitching in the playoffs, the bullpen won't matter. Even I got a little excited when they put 5 and 9 up on the board Tues and Wed, and then it crashed back to reality last night when I remembered they were facing Schmidt and Stroman. When facing a real ace like Cole they were completely shut down. What's gonna happen next week when they face Skubal, Reagins, and/or Lugo? The mediocre bullpen won't matter if they can't figure out how to score some runs off pitchers like that...
    • Why carry four 1 inning guys over a LH long option? Cionel stinks and should not be on the roster over Povich when you still have Akin, Coulombe and Soto.
    • Really would be nice to win tonight OR have DET lose so then they can play around Sat/Sun when the games would have no bearing on the seeding. Dont want this to come down to Sunday and having to win to get the 4 seed or then there will be some tough decisions that have to be made.
    • Looking for a big performance from him next week. This is why he’s here.
