I guess the bar for the Red Sox HOF is about as high as for the Orioles’.   Congrats to Duq.

I went on baseball reference and started digging in to his time there, and found out wikipedia had many of the points I had planned to make.  He's not the "Brian Roberts" or "Mike Bordick" of GMs.

The Red Sox achieved a record of 656–574 under Duquette, setting attendance records and appearing in the playoffs on three separate occasions (1995, 1998, and 1999). The team won the American League East division in 1995, but only advanced as far as the American League Championship Series once in their three postseason years. They would lose that series to the rival New York Yankees.

As the Red Sox GM, Duquette made several notable moves, including drafting Nomar Garciaparra in 1994 and trading for Pedro Martínez in 1997 (and signing him to a six-year, $75 million contract). He is also known for letting Roger Clemens leave in free agency in 1996.

Many of the players that Duquette drafted or signed were on the Red Sox 2004 World Series championship team. He is largely considered to have laid the groundwork for that team by signing and drafting players like Tim Wakefield, Johnny Damon, Jason Varitek, Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, and Kevin Youkilis.

You could do a lot worse than Roberts or Bordick in the Orioles HOF.

I noticed that Rich Gedman is also on the list of people going in with Duquette.    He played 11 years with the Red Sox and was a 2-time all-star, but was just an OK player overall (9.6 rWAR, though 11.7 with the Red Sox before “going negative” elsewhere).

Ortiz and Manny Ramirez are also going in.    It’s interesting they waited that long on Ramirez, who’s been retired since 2011.    Maybe they decided they couldn’t get on their high horse regarding Ramirez’s steroid use while at the same time letting in Ortiz.

Back to Duquette, it’s interesting that his Red Sox teams made it to the playoffs three times in his tenure and the ALCS once — exactly like his time with the Orioles, except they had only one wild card then so no play-in game to lose.

Should Duquette go into the O’s HOF eventually?

Manny Ramirez and the Red Sox had a bad breakup. I'm not exactly surprised it took this long for Manny to get into their team HOF. I would vote yes on Duquette making the Orioles HOF and Buck too. They were key cogs in the 2012-16 run.
