He pitched well and had some good defense behind him(Castro's error not withstanding).

Still shouldn't be in the rotation though.

This is a joke. With all of the trouble we've had in the rotation, particularly of late, and the desire not to rush the AA arms, there isn't much of an option. He's pitched well, and he most certainly deserves to be in the rotation.

That was not the question, sit down and zip it.

Who the hell do you think you are talking too?

I am not your boss at McDonalds.

Astute observation right there, you are correct, you are not my boss at McDonalds. Even as a dig that does not make sense. What you meant to say was 'you are not my boss at McDonalds,' which is much more entertaining but still struggles to make a point. Waiter, rep this man on me!

I do not think Berken and Bergesen would be "rushed"...That is our difference in opinion here.

I think they would be but like you say that's a judgement call. However, after YEARS of rushing every pitcher in our system, I'd like to for once show some patience with young arms. This "rushing" buisness hasn't done a lick of good for this orginization or the individual pitchers either.

Outside of Guthrie, do you think Cabrera, Liz, and Burres deserve to be over him?

Or would you rather see some of our AA guys come up?

So you don't think having them pitch, and learn, in the pressure of a pennant race, albeit at AA, is more important than having them pitch in a couple of meaningless games to finish out a meaningless year with the Orioles?

    • I wonder if this guy could be a second pitching addition for us.   Seems like he might make a good long reliever/spot starter. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/npbs-hanshin-tigers-post-shintaro-fujinami.html
    • I wimped out and said 120-139.  I really want the answer to be 140-159.   But I’m guessing the cap will be right around 140 or just under.   One factor could be how many pitches Grayson is throwing to get through these innings.  In his pre-injury outings, he was cruising along at 14.9 pitches per inning.   Those are very low stress innings.  But if Grayson finds himself throwing 18 pitches per inning next year in the majors, that’s a different ballgame.
    • A little short on job title, but as a grateful longtime reader from back in the day, noticed this in Szymborski's chat today. SEA is one of those teams gotta fight past for AL top 6 in the shorter term. 1:06 Josh R: Noticed this in a transactions list :                                      Mariners Named Dave Cameron senior director, player procurement,                                                 Is this the former FanGraphs Dave Cameron?     1:06  Dan Szymborski: Yes     1:06  Dan Szymborski: (Sorry, was making sure he made it official or I couldn’t say anything)     1:06  Dan Szymborski:     Dave Cameron @OneDaveCameron     I should probably mention this now that it’s official. I get to do some really cool stuff for the @Mariners going forward. Quite a journey from @ussmariner (or asbs-m for us extra old people) to now. I couldn’t be more excited. Sincere thank you to all.
    • It'll be a bad year if the team's competitive situation doesn't put Elias or whoever to a possibly tough decision here. "Controlling the competitive environment" only gets publicized as a virtue for teams doing the stuff of Elias' first four years.     Teams like the Dodgers and Astros earn that privilege with their excellence - these Orioles aren't there yet. Grayson should pitch the 3rd or 4th game of the year, and pitch as well as he can for 20-ish turns.    Then see where we are.     Maybe we trade him then for Burnes and Woodruff and Devin Williams, Milwaukee can let him rest up for next year.
    • Its certainly possible Gunnar's home is shortstop.     The Orioles aren't going to say openly if they have intellectual capital like the cumulative wear and tear of manning SS is known precisely enough it'd be an inefficient use of Gunnar's joints (Royce Lewis' have taken some bumps), and that's why he didn't get to have an everyday SS job in the minor leagues. But they have to play somebody in the major leagues regularly next season, so any developmental guardrails will have to be taken off.     MLB teams seldom platoon shortstops - for me they are like quarterbacks, if you have two, you have none. I'm still on the Occam's razor of shortstops play shortstop (watching you Jackson Holliday in 2023), and almost every pro caliber position player on their Little League, high school, and A-ball teams is the shortstop.   They can't all be Cal Ripken or Ozzie Smith even though the confidence helping them to the Show tells them they probably are. Holliday and Carter Young will probably be teammates for some of 2023 - could be like the Westburg and Gunnar show all over again.
    • I certainly agree that if he follows typical patterns, he’ll have to do most of his damage in the first 4-5 years.   And as I said already, he would have to stay relatively healthy.  That’s often the problem with guys who decline steeply in the back half of their careers.  Judge has only had three fully healthy seasons.
