I'd love to say the logical move is to remove Davis from the roster, but the Orioles are not handling Davis logically. I would not be surprised to see Mancini moved, but if not, I think Mountcastle goes to left, Santander to RF, Mancini to 1B, and Davis to the bench.

I'm pleasantly surprised. I've been hoping we'd add a quality defensive shortstop. I don't see how adding a few short contracts like this could hurt anything in the Orioles' future.

So much for the bad clubhouse guy rep he had.  I'm going to accidentally call him Izturis several times this season.

Oh, me too.     Very similar players, though Iglesias is a little better with the bat (84 OPS+ vs. 64).

Maybe I've been living under a rock (no pun intended), but I don't remember ever seeing anything about Iglesias being a bad clubhouse guy. In terms of keeping his name straight maybe he'll throw us all a bone and make "Hero" by Enrigue Iglesias his walk up music

There was some stuff about him not being liked in Detroit.    He got along fine in Cincinnati last year.

It truly does. I hate the guys that feel entitled to a roster spot and show up late as they feel like its owned them.

A side question and nothing to do with Iglesias, I image as soon as a player reports to camp, the team will house them and feed them (per diem)????? I image non-roster invitees are not subject to the same benefits.

I would think  that if a player is on the 40 man  or is a non roster invitee the club pays  them for housing and per diem (until they are cut then they go to the minors under minor league rules or are let go which stops the payments).

Lets see if anyone knows for sure.

Here’s a USA Today article that explains it pretty well.    I recommend the whole article, which is very eye opening about how tough the minor leaguers have it in spring training.    But here’s the most relevant part:

MLB organizations split players into Major League and minor league camps. According to the sport’s collective bargaining agreement, only non-roster players with enough service time to be eligible for salary arbitration — “Super Two” players and above — receive the weekly expense allowances extended to rostered big-leaguers in spring training, but all players in Major League uniform for Cactus or Grapefruit League games get $95.50 in meal money for that day.

At minor-league camp — which opens in earnest this week for many clubs — players are expected to thrive on no salary, a team-provided breakfast and lunch, and a food allowance of $25 a day.
