here is the key in tywrights post :

He's in unchartered territory for innings pitched

Almost...

2003 - 159.1 IP (28/27 G/GS)

2004 - 161.1 IP (27/25 G/GS)

2005 - 142.1 IP (26/25 G/GS)

2006 - 142.2 IP (30/21 G/GS)

2007 - 134.0 IP (25/19 G/GS) (Before tonights start)

Baseball Cube

No doubt he probably is tiring though and could stand a break in the rotation.

He pitched in the winter leagues, though I can't find how many IP he threw. He also began to show signs of tiring last August as well

My opinion of Guthrie is the same now as it was during his hot streak and the same as it'll be if he has a bad stretch. I think based on his track record he'll eventually settle into a typical #4/5 type pitcher. I think he'll put up league average numbers, ala Benson, etc.

I would have moved him when he was pitching at his earlier unbelivable level, if someone wanted to overpay. I think he's a pitcher will keep you in games and give you a chance to win, so having him as a #4/5 isn't going to hurt us.

Here's a question I've been wrangling with the last few weeks... What scenario would you rather see next year?

A. Both Guts and DCab in the rotation

B. Guts in the rotation, DCab traded for a bat

C. DCab in rotation, Guts in the pen.

All this assuming that Bedard is here and Loewen comes back better then ever.

I'm kinda torn. As much as I'd like a move to be made in the offseason for hitting, I also think they're going to need guys like Guts and Burress to help shore up the bullpen. I think I'd actually like a pen of Ray, Hoey, Bradford, Guts, Baez, Walker and Burress. I'm going with a 13 man staff since they seem to chronically waste a bench spot (maybe Tremblay will solve that?)
