On this day in 1970 the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 5-4 behind a 7.0 inning effort by Dave McNally (3-0) who allowed 4 runs on 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2.

Frank Robinson blasted his second homerun of the season off of Fritz Peterson in the third inning.  Don Buford went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI and Paul Blair went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored.

The Orioles are now 6-3 on the season.

Fritz Peterson! Who swapped wives with...Stan Bahnsen right?

I never knew Bahnsen won 21 games once with the White Sox ('72), but he lost 21 the next year with almost the identical ERA. I.e., Win or Lose, my wife or yours.

Sorry, it was Peterson and Mike Kekich; this article is unusually in-depth for the Daily News (with photos):

Looking at the Yankees lineup, I derive a lot of Schadenfreude from seeing how weak it was: Clarke, Michael, Ron Woods, White, Danny Cater, Munson (1st full season), Blefary (in post-Oriole steep decline after we had gotten Cueller for him from the Astros), Jerry Kenney. The most prominent player, Bobby Murcer, was on the bench that day.
