Did we just blow it?

A lot of swing and miss in him...  my guess is this is some kind of underslot pre-draft deal to try to free up money for picks 30 and 39....   Would MUCH rather have had Martin or Lacy.   Let's see who's right in 4-5 years.....

Austin Martin was as close to a sure thing as there could be and we pick another outfielder???

like we don’t have enough outfielders as it is already???

No. But all of the professional scouts had him rated as one of the elite bats with probably the best overall hit tool in this draft.

Elias is taking a huge risk here.  He's gambling that Kjerstad winds up being almost as good as (or better than) Martin or Lacy, and that there's an overslot person they really like at pick 30.  We'll know in 2-3 years whether it worked.  If it doesn't, Elias is likely to be fired.

I actually like it. I wasn’t that high on Martin. I think he’ll play in the majors for a long time and be a good player. Kjerstad has a chance to be a lot more than good. He may have a lower floor than Martin, but he has a higher ceiling, IMO.

But hell, I don’t know how things are going to turn out, and neither does anyone else. I trust the guys that are actually paid to make the evaluations though. 

And yes, we have a lot of outfielders in our system. But Heston basically becomes the best one now. And there’s a solid chance that Martin ends up being an OF too. So we might have had that issue either way.

The certainty that some fans speak with regarding the MLB draft is really amusing. Let's AT LEAST see how 30 and 39 play out before we condemn Elias and co.

I'm not angry like I was with Hobgood but I don't think it was the best move.
