Very repeatable delivery, still head, easy velo.  I like this pick.  Little "heely" on his landing in some of these videos, but with his low effort delivery, I don't see much not to like.  I like our 1st Pick and our last 3 picks.  I am not a fan of our second two picks, but they are both athletes, so they might end up developing as well.  These last two picks make me like this draft.

2080 Baseball (Nick Faleris and co.) had him on their watch list, an addendum list to their final top 125 list.

Good question--I was wondering the same thing.  The classic "overslot" guy is someone who is ranked highly but slides because of concerns about signability.

Baumler brings a 92-94 fastball with a clean, athletic delivery with good spin rate that will up in the zone. Missed time due to mono but some believe he has as much if not more potential than the top two high school arms taken. 

This is an absolute steal. 

The Orioles basically ended up with three 1st round talents in Kjerstad, Mayo and Baumler. That's called using your bonus in a unique year the right way.

 

 

More athletic than Greinke, who’s won six Gold Gloves and has an OPS that’s roughly double that of the average pitcher?    I kind of doubt it.    But that’s high praise indeed.

It looks like our FO executed its plan very well.  Have to see if the plan is worthwhile.  I personally think folks are getting too worked up over the Kjerstad-Martin swap.  We are walking away from the draft with six legitimate baseball talents.  No senior signs.  No guys not listed on the top 500 prospects.  

A scouting director has to be true to his board and to his scouts and the draft pool.  

This draft is all over the place given the coronavirus situation and the lack of a real baseball season.  The Os draft team apparently played out the rest of the college season and placed a high emphasis on that projection.  We took big strong athletes with big exit velos though some mentioned with some swing and miss - which I personally don't like, but swing and miss changes over time.  Aaron Judge was a strikeout machine his whole minor league career, but became one of the most feared hitters in the game.  I like our fifth round pick just fine, but would have preferred to add another big arm to our system especially since I am just not a fan of the draft profile of Jordan Westburg.  Maybe we wanted Miller and he was popped just before us.  I would have really liked to see McMahon or Beeter or similar with pick.  It also feels a bit weird to draft HH a year after Kelly Stowers to me - some redundancy there.  

Not a great draft for someone who follows the consensus and composite analytics like I do, but we have to trust the guys in charge.  IMO, none of our picks were off the reservation.  Taking Kerstad enabled us to take two very high ceiling HSers in the fourth and fifth rounds.  Hopefully, we have the same scouts who plucked GrayRod and DL Hall recommending our fifth round pick. 

It is a big, big talent haul with some very high upside.  Just not the way I would have done it.

I guess part of his ranking was due to the solid TCU commitment? I don't really know, but Callis seemed kind of stunned when we picked Baumler and referred to it as a steal.
