#50THANNIVERSARY

On this day in 1970 the Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 13-8 in 14 innings.

A 5 hit, 6 run top of the 14th blew the game open.  The inning featured 2-RBI doubles by both Boog Powell and Merv Rettenmund.

Moe Drabowski pitched the final 5.0 innings of the game (3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 3K) to earn the win.  The lone run he allowed was a homerun to Billy Conigliaro.

Don Buford went 4 for 7 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  Merv Rettenmund went 4 for 8 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Boog went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Frank Robinson, Davey Johnson and Rettenmund all hit homeruns as part of the Birds 21 hit game.

Carl Yastrzemski went 3 for 5 with 1 run and 1 RBI and George Scott went 4 for 7 with 1 run and 1 RBI for the Red Sox.
