Current Draft Order

Recommended Posts

We all know that you can only score 4 runs on a grand slam. Yesterday, Saturday, 20th, draft hopefuls got a grand slam plus one: O's lost; Braves, Reds, Royals, Pirates won. Gaining 5th position from Braves; putting some distance between us and Reds & Royals, who have won 8 out of their last 9 !! Sights dead ahead on Pirates in 4th position.

This is what it has come to mean being an O's fan in Sept :o

Hope Braves win today so when we beat MFY in the last game in "The House That Ruth Built" it will be a sad day for both NY baseball teams.

I never root against the O's, but rather take consolation in the fact that it improves our chances to get a better talent come June. I think many feel this way. You're right in that we do scan the other scores, now that it is crunch time. Go Braves. :)

7 games left. 4 against Tampa Bay, 3 against Toronto.

Any chance we catch the Pirates? :D

They've got games against Milwaukee which will be pushing for the playoffs and SD. San Diego will probably be gunning for the 2nd pick so it's possible we could pass them...

Tie breakers are done by last year's draft order, so Arizona would pick ahead of Cleveland.

Yeah I realize that, but wasn't taking the time to look those things up as yet... I was going to wait until the year was over to clarify ties... however, I'll try to be on top of that from now on. Thanks. :)

Its sad that MLB is letting Boras even make this into a case.

There is no benefit for the client to fight over an extra million to miss out a season of development.

A 5th pick for us becomes a 7th pick if Boras gets his way.

But that 7th pick will include options of Alvarez and Hosmer, which just sweetens the deal.

Alvarez just signed, so perhaps Hosmer is still floating out there...

Either way - I think we're getting pick 5 (unless PIT lights on fire) and I think we'll have some good options...

Eh, I think the point is ML teams were able to unilaterally alter the drop-dead time by being awarded the ability to negotiate after midnight. In this scenario, the player's side has to operate as if midnight is the absolute deadline, while the organization can determine whether or not to throw in a last second offer and allow the player a brief window after midnight to accept.

Regardless of anyone's personal opinion of Boras, both sides should be able to operate under the same rules. ML teams shouldn't be given extensions to negotiate unless MLB is willing to allow every draftee to petition for the same extensions. That would be problematic at best, so just stick to the midnight deadline -- no exceptions.
