Baumann shut down for the season with elbow strain

Let's hope this isn't one of the situations in which surgery is a consideration after a lengthy shut down failed to help the issue.

I'd rather that than have him throw half an inning next spring, get shut down, then have surgery.

Does he have a history of similar arm injuries? My understanding of the TJ injuries is they occur after multiple arm injuries, wearing down of flexors/tendons that haven’t fully healed.

I’ve definitely seen “flexor strain” or even “elbow fatigue” lead to a TJ. Hope I’m wrong, but I have a bad feeling.

Baumann remains at the Bowie site undergoing rehab and will stay there until the Orioles close the camp. He will not participate in any further competition. The Orioles are hopeful Baumann will begin a throwing program soon and would be ready this fall or winter if there is an instructional camp for minor leaguers, which is only in the planning stages at this point.

This is scary. He may be our highest upside guy outside of Hall/Rodriguez, and assuming Harvey's upside has already been limited to the bullpen.

I'm hoping this is a situation where it's a very mild injury and the FO is being overly cautious with this crazy season.
