To go from undrafted, pitch in a World Series, to stacking together some of the best relief innings in a generation, to All Star, that is one hell of a career, and I hope he can enjoy retirement with the satisfaction of knowing he overcame and excelled in what is an extremely difficult challenge.

Sure it did, they saved some money.  I firmly believe that the main goal of all of those trades was to cut payroll over getting quality players back.

I've never understood the whole, flip him at the deadline camp.  You can't always get a big haul at the deadline, that year only the Dodgers were interested in an expensive rental whose stock wasn't at it's peak.

Yeah, in terms of did we get more than what 3 months of Manny + a comp pick, is worth, I think we'll come out ahead on the deal.

Now in terms of what is the best deal we could have made and would it have been significantly better... we'll never know the answer to that one.
