MARK REYNOLDS hit a 2-run home run in the top of the 9th inning to give the Brewers a couple of insurance runs in their 9-4 win over the Phillies.

It was Reynolds' 2nd round-tripper of the season, and his Brewers are off to a solid 6-2 start, including a sweep of the Red Sox in Fenway Park.

Couple of stolen bases as well.

I watched the whole inning and it was deja vu... he gave up a leadoff single on a ground ball... he threw a nasty 2-seamer to freeze the next batter... he walked the next... then walked the next to load the bases... then gave up a bloop shallow single to tie... then got yanked.

He didn't give up anything hard, his 2-seamer looked nasty, he got squeezed at the plate and got babiped to death. In other words, the exact same nightmare we witnessed last year.

What's the Oakland infield D like? I bet it's pretty good and so it might help things to work out for Johnson there. It is interesting that in each of the two good appearances he's had--out of five--he K'd two hitters. Maybe he can become more of that type of closer as well.

Bonafacio is unreal! He was a waiver claim we could have had or never got to us?

I really wanted Bonifacio and think he would have been a big upgrade over Lombardozzi, Weeks or even Flaherty as a utility IF for us this season.

That said, he completely cleared waivers after being DFAed by the Royals. So, no team was interested, at least not at the price he was going for.

A funny story involving Hammel after the end of yesterday's Cubs game...

Jason Hammel came out firing inside Wrigley Field's interview room/dungeon.

Once the Cubs pitcher sat down behind the microphone after Wednesday night's 7-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, he couldn't wait to tell reporters about Anthony Rizzo.

"I got a good one for you guys," Hammel said. "Real good one. I got to throw my first baseman under the bus. He just congratulated me on my first NL win. Just make sure that everybody knows that Rizzo was not there with us in Pittsburgh last week, apparently. That's a good one. I didn't know I didn't win at all in Colorado either."

Don't look now, but three of the four leaders in MLB WHIP are pitchers we declined to sign this past off-season: Santana, Hammel, and Feldman. Of course, it will turn out (I hope) that the Oriole staff is so good and our coaches so smart that these were the right decisions. When you include Guthrie, Chen, Balfour, etc. there really are a good number of former or almost-Oriole pitchers either doing well or being asked to play very important roles on other teams. Wasn't the case pre-Buck/DD.--haven't quite figured out how to judge that.

Oh yeah, sure they are--you probably expect me to believe the Brewers are in the National League.

Actually, it's sort of even more indicting that Feldman's doing it against AL opposition.

If DD had topped the Astros' offer to Feldman, I think the board would have suffered a collective, nervous breakdown. Career best ERA of 3.86 last year, with ERAs over 5.00 in three of the last six years.

Slightly below league average starter who's off to a hot start. Maybe this is his career year (if that's the case, Feldman's contract is interesting, since he's getting $12 million this year, $10 next year, and $8 in the final year), but I'm glad we spent big on Ubaldo instead.

      Given his injury history and what’s happening right now, Means may make more money as an Oriole next year than as a free agent. He may have to settle for league minimum as a FA but would do better than that in arbitration. Heck, unless he’s effective at least a little this year then the orioles might release him after the season to avoid paying more than league minimum. I hope Means recovers, very much so, but this scenario is possible imo.    ps. I guess I ignored the part where you said if Means thinks he is healthy.

      What I'd like to see in the next game Holliday plays, is for him to keep his eyes following through on the ball when he swings. In the last game I saw, he was yanking his head off the zone when he swung and couldn't see the bat to the ball. He was missing wildly and it wasn't even competitive. So, keep your eye on the ball! Follow all the way through! If your swing is so violent that it's yanking your head off the sight of the ball, then adjust your mechanics because you can't hit what you can't see!

      Well it certainly doesn't look like he'll be winning Rookie of Year award. And if we send him down for like the tiniest amount of time, we get him for another year, right? I think if this poor hitting continues it's financial mismanagement not to send him back down. Grayson got sent down and came back way better.

      He certainly isn't a bust but I wasn't happy with the pick at the time and I don't love using the second overall pick for that type of player profile. Westburg signed for slot so he's irrelevant but Mayo was a great use of the money saved.
