Right, that's what gets me, if all but the Orioles and I think the Dodgers have a way to make money streaming, why do the Orioles think they will lose money?

Beats me.  I don't really get it but I am sure they're happy being in the stone age and pissing off their fans even more.

The team is already hard enough to watch, be thankful some of us still want to watch it and make it easier for us to do so.

Well at least if you were going to watch bad baseball, you could have a guy with a great voice telling you about it.

I like Scott, and I'm sure he was cheaper than Gary, but Gary was like having a national announcer call your games. Even with his quirks, his humor and his chemistry with Palmer was a good listen most of the time, even during hard to watch games.

Exactly, I can watch the Orioles get kicked around by the Rays or Yankees when Thorne and Palmer are on the call. I can't say the same with the current batch of broadcasters.

Yep.  Watching a game with Thorne and Palmer was a treat no matter what the score was.  And Tony is correct, Thorne was a national announcer, he brought a feeling of gravitas to the game despite the fact that it was a regional thing.

Oh I totally get it. I paid for Directv in North Carolina for many years only to watch O's games, because it was my only option. I'd happily pay quite a bit to be able to stream the O's without a cable subscription, but I don't know how many other people would.

The cable companies and RSNs still have a pretty sweet deal because so many people pay a fee in their bill to cover local sports rights that couldn't care less about sports.

They have a sweet deal because they push that charge onto all subscribers, even if the subscriber could care less about baseball or the Orioles. But then again, Verizon FIOS just changed our video franchise fee from $9.95 to $29.95 with no heads up and explanation, so cable companies continue to add charges onto your "rates" while their service becomes worse and worse.

Oh yeah, I meant that the subscriber usually gets the shaft, whether they realize it or not. Especially the one that just has cable to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and has no idea what MASN is.

During the dark years it brought an air of legitimacy to the Orioles as silly as it may sound because Gary Thorne was on the call. I remember Thorne calling NHL games on ESPN and he made watching hockey more fun.

And they honest to god wonder why people are cutting cords at record rates. Also doesn't help that the product on TV is becoming worse as time goes on.

Would be nice if MASN would get on Sling, which is the cheapest of the various options. I have Sling  pretty much exclusively to watch Maryland basketball. The Giants and Athletics games are available on Sling in-market.

Here is a list of all team's RSN streaming platform options - https://www.groundedreason.com/how-to-watch-mlb-games-without-cable/

That option would of course be second to just letting us pay them directly. This is all very dumb, hopefully it gets sorted out soon, but it should have happened 5+ years ago.

Assuming this list is up to date, I'm fairly stunned with how many RSNs are not available on streaming services like YouTubeTV, Fubo or Hulu.

Edit: Well, I guess other than AT&T Now.

When did this happen Tony?   I know you live in Elkridge like I do.   I haven't seen my bill go up any time recently.

And the Orioles broadcast team for 2021 has been made official.

Can someone help me out and tell me what it says?   Social media is blocked here on the work computer, and I won't be home for another 5 hours or so.  Will be much appreciated.

Take a look. It was the difference between December and January. they had charged me for a box that I had returned so i went and compared my bills and I was like WTF? Plus MD raised their taxes $20 a month as well.

Geoff Arnold, Kevin Brown, Scott Garceau, Brett Hollander, Rob Long, Ben McDonald, Melanie Newman, Jim Palmer.

It just lists the broadcast team alphabetically.

That list was as of the start of last season. Things could change between now and the start of this season, but I wouldn't expect MASN to lead the way in negotiating availability on those streaming services.

That said, $65 a month is still $390 over the course of the season, and I have very little interest in watching any of the other channels. Looks like it will either be a VPN or Grandpa's Xfinity login for me. I don't believe I have any other friends or family that still pay for cable.

    • The bullpen has warts for sure, but if this offense doesn't figure out how to hit good pitching in the playoffs, the bullpen won't matter. Even I got a little excited when they put 5 and 9 up on the board Tues and Wed, and then it crashed back to reality last night when I remembered they were facing Schmidt and Stroman. When facing a real ace like Cole they were completely shut down. What's gonna happen next week when they face Skubal, Reagins, and/or Lugo? The mediocre bullpen won't matter if they can't figure out how to score some runs off pitchers like that...
    • Why carry four 1 inning guys over a LH long option? Cionel stinks and should not be on the roster over Povich when you still have Akin, Coulombe and Soto.
    • Really would be nice to win tonight OR have DET lose so then they can play around Sat/Sun when the games would have no bearing on the seeding. Dont want this to come down to Sunday and having to win to get the 4 seed or then there will be some tough decisions that have to be made.
    • Looking for a big performance from him next week. This is why he’s here.
    • It was R-R-L-R coming up. Cano is the guy Hyde matches up against the toughest hitters. Yes, those guys got to him the previous game but that is his job and Hyde also probably saw a redemption opportunity to get his confidence back after a tough outing. I don't see why that was bad move except in hindsight it didn't work out. Congrats if you called it in the game thread.
    • Soto and Judge are both first ballot Hall of Famers when they retire.  Soto is younger than Adley, has a career bWAR over 36, and dominated the 2019 postseason as a 21 year old. Folks probably weren't paying much attention to him or the Nats back then, but he has been a force ever since being called up in 2018. And Judge...not sure why nobody else saw value in a six and a half foot man with a ton of raw power, but good for them for nailing that 32nd pick in the draft. Having these guys 2 and 3 in the lineup is such a game changer, because there is so much pressure on the opposing pitchers to not screw up with any of their other 7 hitters.  One guy you may be able to get around.  But 2.....much harder.   That being said, I do think it is more about us losing the division than anything else.  Tampa showed us last year how to keep fighting in spite of injuries. Those guys were decimated and were like a relentless swarm of bees hanging around us all the way until the last weekend.  They won 99 games with an extremely depleted pitching staff and a slew of no-name hitters who kept coming up with big hits.  We lost this division by playing uninspired, unclutch, and lame baseball for three full months.  And amazingly, we will have gone all of July, all of August, and all of September without so much as a 4 game winning streak.   Winning the season series against every division opponent for the second year in a row is something I am very happy about after years of being a doormat. I am sorry we couldn't win the division, but I am also glad to be playing next week and not sitting at home waiting to play a team on a high after winning a playoff series.
    • It's game 160 tonight and we just discovered our bull pen has warts? Elias's fault, Hyde's fault - we've had ample threads of he sucks, they suck, fire him, demote him, etc.  Well we are off to the playoffs and the pen may be the reason we don't go far. And if so I doubt few on here will be surprised. It is what it is going forward with some but not necessarily significant adjustments. We play this year out with the hand we can put together - next Monday. Till then, just win one in Minnasota for the bottom line. Last night is over and IMO really didn't teach us anything we didn't already know.
